JACQUELINE J. “JACQUIE” KEMPF

Jacqueline J. “Jacquie” Kempf nee Geritano of Lombard, Illinois, age 59, died January 30.  Beloved wife of Anthony G.; loving mother of Kari (Richard) Ellis of Lombard, Anthony J. “T.J.” of Hillside, Mike (Amanda Jacobs) of DeKalb.  Loving “Nonny” of Dustin, Cody, Gianna and Summer; dear sister of Irene (Thomas) Trakas, Frank (Donna) Geritano, and the late Constance and Janice.  Many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mrs. Kempf was a resident of Lombard for the past 40 years.  She grew up in Broadview and graduated from Proviso East High School.  She has been the secretary for singer, Engelbert Humperdinck for the past 25 years.  She was the past President of his Fan Club and the current Fan Liason.  She also maintained his website.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Brust Funeral Home, 135 South Main Street, Lombard, IL.  In lieu of flowers memorials to American Lung Association, 150 North Wacker Drive, Chicago, IL 60606 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905 are appreciated.

ARLENE L. MERL, nee Sufalko, age 72, formerly of Lombard,died January 23, 2011 at Wauconda HealthCare & Rehabilitation Centre.

Memorial Service will be held at Saturday May 21st, 12:00 Noon,   at the First Church of Lombard, Maple Street Chapel, at the corner of Main and Maple Streets in Lombard.

Mrs. Merl is survived by her daughter, Janice H. Merl of Wauconda; her brother, Dr. Arnold Sufalko of Elgin; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews; her aunt, Ann Wisniewski of Michigan and Betty (Ed) Rypma of Rockford MI.; and many cousins.

Mrs. Merl is preceded in death by her husband, George R.; her son, Gregory;

her parents Felix and Helen (nee Malinowski) Sufalko, her uncle, Stanley Wisniewski, and Aunt Peggy Beets.

Mrs. Merl had been a resident of Lombard for 40 years.  She had been an assistant at the Helen Plum Library.  Mrs. Merl was a member of the Red Hat Society at Belmont Village in Buffalo Grove Illinois.

JUAN J. TORRES, age 60, of Lombard, Marine Viet Nam Veteran, died January 29, at home.

Interment is private at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.

IRVING R. LESCH, AGE 88, OF LOMBARD, formerly of Norridge,

IRVING R. LESCH, AGE 88, OF LOMBARD, formerly of Norridge, died January 28, at home.  Visitation will be Monday, January 31, from 2 p.m. until time of funeral service at 8:30 p.m. at Brust Funeral Home, 135 South Main Street, Lombard.  Interment will be private at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.

Mr. Lesch is survived by his daughter Christine (James “Ross”) Quinn of Davis, IL, and his son Lee (Laurel) Lesch of Lombard; his grandchildren:  Kelcey (Alan) Coveyou of Michigan, Jancy Quinn of Australia, Brianne (Tony) Turano of Round Lake, IL, Carly Quinn of California, Shaunessy Quinn of California, Brandon Lesch of Lombard, Delaney Quinn of Schaumberg, IL, and Shanairra Quinn of Davis, IL.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Dorothy M. nee Proehle, two brothers and one sister.

Mr. Lesch had been a resident of Lombard for five years, DesPlaines for 5 years and Norridge for 46 years.  He retired from Castle Metals after 20 years as a steel salesman.  He was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served during World War II in the 31st Infantry Division of the U. S. Army in the following 3 campaigns:  East Indies, New Guinea and South Philippines.  The received the Combat Infantryman Badge and three bronze battle stars.  He was a member of VFW Post 2992.  He was a former Cub and Boy Scout leader and also a former member of Moose and Lions Clubs.  He was a current member of the Elks Club in Des Plaines.

FRANCES M. HUGHES, age 83 of Lombard,

FRANCES M. HUGHES, age 83 of Lombard, died Friday, January 28, at St. Alexius Medical Center in Barrington.  Visitation will be Friday, February 4, from 9 a.m. until time of prayers at 10:30 a.m. at Brust Funeral Home, 135 South Main Street, Lombard.  Funeral will be at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Church, Lombard.  Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Alsip.

Ms. Hughes is survived by her nephew Thomas Michael Hughes, her niece Jamee Curtice, her great-nephew Kigen Curtice, all of Utah,  and her best friend Donna Wilson of Naperville and many other good friends.  She was preceded in death by her brother Thomas Joseph Hughes, Jr.

Ms. Hughes attended Barry College in FL where she studied music, piano and composed several songs for the piano.  She later worked at a variety of locations as an accountant.  She was originally from the South Side of Chicago and later from Lombard.  Ms. Hughes was an avid golfer, swimmer, skier with the Nomad Ski Club, and she loved to travel.  She had travelled all over Europe.  She had many friends and attended Christ the King Church in Lombard.

Richard J. (Sy) Sichrovsky of Lombard, Oldest Living Past Commander of Lombard VFW

Oldest Living Past Commander of Lombard VFW

Richard J. (Sy) Sichrovsky, honored in 2005 as the oldest living Commander of  Lombard VFW Post 5815, passed away January 26th at age 85  A pioneer settler at Lombard Lilac Gardens, Sy and his wife moved into their new home in 1957 when Charlotte Street south of Wilson was still an unpaved dirt road, wood planks served as sidewalks and Glenbard East was under construction.

Sy is survived by his wife Connie (nee Pierce)  and their children: Kathy (Jon) Lehuta; Steve (Kathy) Sichrovsky; Claudia (Dave) Stlaske; John Sichrovsky,  James Sichrovsky and Barbara Sichrovsky Bombliss.    He was the dear grandfather of seven – Jon Jr, Christina, Amy, Carrie, Daniel, Alyssa and Michael.

A World War II veteran (1942-49),  Sy wrote about his U. S. Navy experiences in the Memorial Day 2000 edition of the Lombard  Pride, which included serving in the U.S. Naval Armed Guard and protecting shipping from German U-boats in the North Atlantic.   He went on to serve in almost every war theater –from Algiers to Anzio, the invasion of Southern France (Aug.15, 1944), and finally in the Pacific .  He was a member of Lombard American Legion Post 391, the Military Order of  the Cooties (Honorary Degree of the VFW), and  Past Senior Vice Commander of DuPage County VFW Council.

A graduate of the University of Illinois, Sy was a Sears National Headquarters advertising executive (1952-80)  and then alcohol/drug counselor at Chicago Salvation Army Freedom Center (1980-83)  before Parkinson’s disease caused him to be homebound.

After marching in many a Lilac and Memorial Day parade, Sy had been mobile only in a power wheelchair for the past 2 ½ years while receiving very skilled care at the Quincy, Illinois Veterans Home.

A Memorial Celebration in his honor will be held at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Saturday, February 5.  Visitation 10:30 a.m. until Service, 12:30 p.m.  Private interment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.

GRACE CAROL BRUST, nee Konigsfeld, age 90, of Elkhart, Indiana

GRACE CAROL BRUST, nee Konigsfeld, age 90, of Elkhart, Indiana, died January 27 at Woodland Manor in Elkhart, Indiana.

Visitation and Funeral Service will be held at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St. Lombard,  Tuesday, February 1 with Visitation from 10 AM until time of Service at 12:00 Noon.

Interment will be at Chapel Hill Gardens West, Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois.

Mrs. Brust is survived by her daughter, Caren Rae Gay; three grandchildren, Eric Walquist of Mendota, Illinois, Kirk (Kathie) Walquist of Lake Zurich, Illinois, and Deidre (Gino) Darabas of Hartford, Connecticut; five great-grandchildren, Melissa Wolquist of Winchester, Illinois, and Christopher Dummer, Jamey Dummer, Matthew Darabas, and  Katelyn Darabas all of Connecticut; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Mrs. Brust is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond F.; her son-in-law, James E. Gay; her brother, Lorne Philip Konigsfeld; and her sister, Muriel.

Mrs. Brust was a resident of Elkhart 8 years and was formerly of McHenry and Melrose Park.  She was a graduate of Proviso East High School.  Mrs. Brust was devoted to her late husband.  She was an avid Cubs fan.

LAVERGNE E. LEDERER, age 87, of Villa Park, died January 27 at her home.

Visitation and Funeral Service will be held Monday, January 31 from 10:00 AM until time of Service at 12:00 Noon at Brust Funeral Home, 135 South Main Street, Lombard.

Interment will be at Mt. Emblem Cemetery, Elmhurst, Illinois.

Mrs. Lederer is survived by four daughters, Alva Reese, Avis (Earl) Hansen, Hope Klein, and Dawn (Frank) Emmerling; three sons, Edwin, Burt (Renee), and Charlie; and many Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren.

Mrs. Lederer is preceded in death by her Life Partner, Robert Hargis; her daughter, Enid; and her son-in-law, Gerald Reese.

Mrs. Lederer loved to sew and do crafts.  She loved to bird watch.  Mrs. Lederer loved working in her yard and was a wonderful gardener.  She enjoyed Big Band and Country music.  Mrs. Lederer loved to play Bingo and go to garage sales.  She was a very proud mother.

BERNARD D. OYER, age 78, of Melrose Park, since 1963, died January 26 at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, Elmhurst, Illinois.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 30 from 4 to 8 pm at Brust Funeral Home, 135 South Main Street, Lombard.

Funeral Service will be held Monday, January 31 with Mr. Oyer Lying-In-State from 10:00 AM until time of Service at 11:00 AM at Lombard Mennonite Church, 528 East Madison, Lombard.

Interment will be Graveside at Elm Lawn Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.

Mr. Oyer is survived by his wife, Jean, nee Benson; his son, Clifford (Lois) of Goshen, Indiana; his daughter, Carolyn (Bill) Russell of Elmhurst; two (2) grandchildren, Dirk Oyer of Goshen, Indiana, and Eric Russell of Elmhurst; four brothers and sisters, Romeyn Dyer of Normal, Illinois, Laverne (Pat) of Pontiac, Clarence H. “Mannie” (Jeanne), Jr. of Heyworth, Illinois, and Joyce (Bob) Frey of Archbold Ohio.

Mr. Oyer is preceded in death by his brother, Richard, and sister in law Marilyn and his parents Clarence and Alma Egle Oyer.

Mr. Oyer was a resident of Melrose Park since 1963 and was formerly of Chicago.  He grew up in rural Livingston County and was a 1951 graduate of Cornell High School.  Mr. Oyer married Jean Benson on November 28, 1959.  Mr. Oyer was a retired Electrician from Local #134.  He was a member of the Lombard Mennonite Church.  Mr. Oyer was a member of Wildfire Harley Owners Group (HOG) Club.

RUTH M. KIERETA, nee Bean, age 92, of Downers Grove

RUTH M. KIERETA, nee Bean, age 92, of Downers Grove, formerly of Lombard, died January 24 at Fairview Baptist Home, Downers Grove, Illinois.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 29 with Mrs. Kiereta Lying-In-State from 10 AM to time of Service at 11:30 AM at Lombard Mennonite Church, Lombard.  Interment will be at Chapel Hill Gardens West, Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois.

Mrs. Kiereta is survived by her daughter, Margaret ‘Meg” Kadzik of Lisle; two (2) grandchildren, Daniel Matthew Kadzik of Lisle, and Amber Rose (Jake) Riley of Lisle; two (2) great-grandchildren, Nikalette Riley of Lisle, and James Riley of Lisle; her sister, Hilda Helmuth of Canada; and her sister-in-law, Lillian Bean of Petersboro, Canada; and many other relatives.

Mrs. Kiereta is preceded in death by her husband, Matthew A.; and her brother, Gordon Bean, who died the same day as she in Canada.

Mrs. Kiereta was born in Canada and was a 1938 graduate of Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate High School.  She received her Teaching Certificate in 1939 from Stratford Normal School.  Mrs. Kiereta received her BA from Goshan College in Indiana in 1947.  She went from Canada to China and was a Missionary in China from 1947 until 1949 when she was deported by the Communists.  Mrs. Kiereta then served as a Missionary in Japan from 1949 to 1956, coming to Chicago in 1957.  Mrs. Kiereta was a resident of Lombard since 1975 and was a member of the Lombard Mennonite Church.  She was a retired Editorial Assistant and had worked for CCH Inc. and had worked there from 1957 to 1961 and 1977 to 1988.
