In 1976,  at the age of 9, James Moneer was diagnosed with Leukemia, the Moneer family flew to Seattle, Washington and lived there for several months to receive the best treatment from the staff at The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.  Jim’s sister Nicole, at the age of 4, was the only match in the family for a bone-marrow transplant which proved to be successful.  At the time, he only had a 10% chance of survival and was the only child on the floor who survived.  His doctor invented the bone-marrow transplant and was later awarded the Noble Prize.  Today, Jim is 36 years post-transplant.  Imerman Angels is a one-on-one cancer support organization that pairs up cancer fighters with cancer survivors and also provides support for caregivers/loved ones.  Both James and Nicole have been involved with IA over the past few years.
