Ralph Albertsen, age 85, formerly of Lombard

Ralph Albertsen, 85 of Glen Ellyn, formally of Lombard died Saturday, May 19, surrounded by his family at Central DuPage Hospital.

Ralph is survived by his son Wayne (Linda) of Knoxville, TN, daughters, Marsha (Michael) Zielke of LaSalle, IL and Julie Albertsen (Fiancé Jose’ Morales) of Aurora, IL. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Jennifer Albertsen of Knoxville, TN, Jeremy Albertsen of Lisle, IL, Eric Albertsen of Winter Park, FL, Sara (Michael) Biagini of Peru, IL, and Matthew Zielke of Peru, IL, and great granddaughter Lyliana Segueda-Albertsen. Also, he is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Ralph was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Eileen (Landon) Albertsen, his daughter Susan Albertsen, parents Elsie and Charles Albertsen, siblings Homer Charles (Bud) Albertsen and Stanton (Stan) Albertsen.

Ralph was born and raised in Oak Park, IL, graduating from Oak Park High School. Shortly afterwards he joined the Navy during WW II as an aviation metalsmith third class and served for two years.

Ralph worked in the trucking industry where he was co-owner of F. Landon Cartage Company of Chicago and dedicated many years to the business. He prided himself in being an active member of the Lombard Bible Church where he served as an usher up to the time of his death. He participated in many projects including the remolding of the church. He also oversaw the church finances for many years.

After retirement he and his wife enjoyed traveling the country with their trailer along with good friends from the Lombard Bible Church. He was a member of the YMCA where he enjoyed the water aerobics class taught by his wife. He was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Lombard for many years.

Viewing will be held Tuesday, May 22, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Brust Funeral Home, 135 South Main Street, Lombard. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 23. Prior to the 12:00 pm service there will be a viewing at 11:00 am at Lombard Bible Church. Pastor Stu Heiss will be officiating. Interment will be at Mount Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst. FREDERICK EDWARD MULLETT, JR., aka “Ted”, age 70,

FREDERICK EDWARD MULLETT, JR., aka “Ted”, age 70, died peacefully while embraced by family at the University of Chicago Hospital on Saturday, May 12.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 16 from 3 to 9 pm with a service at 7:30 pm at Brust Funeral Home, 135 South Main Street, Lombard.

Ted will be cremated and laid to rest on what would be his 71st birthday on May 23, 2012 at Mt. Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst.

Ted is survived by his son, Mark Edward Mullett; and his sister, Gayle Roseanne Priebe.

Ted was born in Chicago to Bernice Marie, nee Menth, and Frederick Edward Mullett on May 23, 1941.  He was a graduate of Glenbard High School in Glen Ellyn and had lived in Lombard since 1952.  Ted made the national headlines when he soloed a private airplane at the age of 14 and then continued as a private pilot for decades.  He held a variety of jobs such as a mechanic at American Airlines, an air traffic controller for O’Hare, a small engine repairman at G.E.M. Products, and spent his later entrepreneurial years running “Teds Quality Service”, a small engine repair shop.

Kathleen M. Edwards, nee Wherity, age 63, of Lombard

KATHLEEN M. EDWARDS, nee Wherity, age 63, of Lombard, formerly of Countryside died May 13.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 16 from 3 to 9 PM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 South Main Street, Lombard.

Funeral Service will be held Thursday, May 17 at 10 AM at Brust Funeral Home.

Interment Private.

Kathleen Edwards is survived by two sons, Jeffrey P. (Laura L) of Villa Park, and Christopher J. (Karen T.) of Carol Stream; three (3) grandchildren, Lauden, Caden, and Keagan; four sisters, Maureen Brennwald, Colleen (Jim) Quenzer, Eileen (Tom) Covelli, and Doreen (Joe) Robinson; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Kathleen Edwards is preceded in death by her parents William and Dorothy Wherity and brother-in-law, Bryan.

Kathleen Edwards was formerly a resident of Countryside and Glen Ellyn.

Glenn F. Balfanz, Jr., age 73, of Oswego

GLENN F. BALFANZ, JR., age 73, of Oswego, died May 13 at Rush-Copley Medical Center, Aurora.

Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, May 16 at 11 AM at Christ Community Church, 40W093 Galena Boulevard, Aurora, Illinois.  Interment Private.

Mr. Balfanz is survived by two daughters, Deborah (Joe) Starkovich of Brookfield, and Laurie of Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Randy Jr., Krystal, and Jake Hermosillo, and Matthew and Sean Starkovich; his sister, Judith (Don) Palm of Missouri; and many other family and friends.

Mr. Balfanz is preceded in death by his wife, Diana.

Mr. Balfanz was a Mechanical Engineer and had worked for Chicago Metallic for over 15 years and for Allsteel in Aurora for over 15 years.  He loved to fix and tinker with antique clocks.  Mr. Balfanz had a beautiful backyard with his many Rose and Poppy bushes.

JOHN A. PAGONIS, age 66, Vietnam Veteran and Life-Long resident of Lombard

JOHN A. PAGONIS, age 66, Vietnam Veteran and Life-Long resident of Lombard died May 10.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 14 from 2 to 8 PM at Community Presbyterian Church, 1111 East Madison, Lombard.  Funeral Service will be Tuesday at 11 AM at the Church. Interment Private at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery, Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois.

Mr. Pagonis is survived by his wife, Linda, nee Swanson; his children, Jennifer N. (Thomas F.) Martin of Aurora, Melissa A. (Rick C.) Alejandro of Carol Stream, and Michael J. of Lombard; five grandchildren, Jacob, Jenna, Nicholas, Marissa, and Anthony; his mother, Catherine, nee Pavlou; his twin-brother, James (Maureen) of Roseville, California; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Mr. Pagonis is preceded in death by his father, Andrew J.

Mr. Pagonis was a Trustee at Community Presbyterian Church.  He was a volunteer for PADS.  Mr. Pagonis was a lifetime member of VFW Post #2801.  He loved his grandchildren and family, and his dog, Buddy.  Mr. Pagonis loved trains, clocks, and pocket watches.  He enjoyed the outdoors and camping.  He was a wonderful husband, father, and loving grandfather.

Gladys H. Pedersen nee Hansen, age 91, of Lombard, died May 8 at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 11, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St. Lombard. from 4 to 8 PM.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 12, at 10AM at Brust Funeral Home.

Interment will be at Elm Lawn Cemetery, Elmhurst.

Mrs. Pedersen is survived by seven nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Pedersen is preceded in death by her husband, George, two sisters, Dorothy and Lillian and a brother, Robert.

HELEN “KAY” SIREK, age 68, of Lombard,

HELEN  “KAY”  SIREK, age 68, of Lombard, died May 8, at her home.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Christ the King, Monday, May 14 at 11 A.M. with a memorial gathering at 10 AM.

Ms. Sirek is survived by five sisters, Joan “Josey” (Russell) Warren of Minnosota, Rita Reilly of Virginia, Rose (Steve ) Sirek – Love of Washington, Annette (Mark ) Teslik of Moline and Dolores (Joseph) Kreye of Wisconsin; her brother Gregory (Lois) of Iowa; six nieces and two nephews. Ms. Sirek is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Evelyn, a  brother, David Edward, and a brother -in-law, Edward Reilly.

Ms. Sirek was the current president of the Lombard Lions Club and was very active in Christ the King Church. She worked with the blind and other Lions programs, and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority.

Viola M. Zersen, nee Thiesse, age 94, of Winfield

VIOLA M. ZERSEN, nee Thiesse, age 94, of Winfield, formerly of Lombard, died May 6 at her home.

A gathering will be held Sunday, May 13 from 2 PM until the time of a Celebration of Life at 4 P.M. at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main Street, Lombard.  The celebration will continue at a restaurant to be determined.  Interment will be private at Itasca Cemetery.

Mrs. Zersen is survived by three daughters, Barbara (Fred) Olsen of Michigan, Sylvia (James) Turus of Itasca, and Janet Saltsgaver of McHenry; 5 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren; her brother, Ralph (Maggie) Zielske of Bloomingdale; many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews; and many good friends.  She will be missed.

Mrs. Zersen is preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph.

ANGELINA V. DUARTE, nee Coiro, age 89 of Brooklyn, NY, died Saturday, May 5.

Visitation Tuesday 8:30 A.M., until time of prayers 9:30 A.M., at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Sacred Heart Church for 10 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial interment at Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY.

Mrs. Duarte is survived by her son Manuel; her two grandchildren, Jason and Alexander; and her friend Sonia Joubert.

Mrs. Duarte was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel; her son, Anthony, and her brother, Patrick “Patsy” Coiro.

Mrs. Duarte lived most of her life in Brooklyn, NY. She had only recently moved to
Carol Stream, IL.

Nancy J. “Bonnie” Wagner, age 79, of Villa Park

NANCY J. ‘BONNIE’ WAGNER, age 79, of Villa Park, died May 2 in Westmont.

Graveside Service was held Tuesday, May 8 at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elburn, Illinois.

Mrs. Wagner is survived by her son, Scott (Beth); her daughters, Wendy (Bill) Dunne and Sheri Stapleton; eight (8) grandchildren, Sherri, Billy, Kyle, Erin, Luke, Kelly, Kevin and Chris; four (4) great-grandchildren; her sister, Roberta Bogusch; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Mrs. Wagner is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; her parents, Charles and Jean Kerbec; and her sister, Carole Tippett.

Bonnie was born October 5, 1932 to Charles and Jean Kerbec and lived her entire life in the Chicagoland area. She loved to knit and crochet, and was an avid reader. Bonnie was a dedicated long-time employee of Elmhurst College.
