Charlene ‘Char’ Short, nee Kressman, age 76, of Glendale Heights

CHARLENE ‘CHAR’ SHORT, nee Kressman, age 76, of Glendale Heights died March 30 at Central DuPage Hospital, Winfield, Illinois.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 2 from 3 to 9 PM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 South Main Street, Lombard.

Funeral Service will be held Friday, April 4 at 1:00 PM at Brust Funeral Home.

Interment Glen Oak Cemetery, Hillside, Illinois

Mrs. Short is survived by her husband of 56 years, Lafe D.; four children, Jesse Lee (Linda) of Roselle, Debra (Robert) White of Arizona, Robert (Irene Zaporowicz-Short) of Norridge, and Cheryl (Paul) Beutell of Lombard; and seven grandchildren, Susan White of Arizona, Ashley White of Arizona, Rachel (Chris) Sliwa of Bloomingdale, Joshua Short of Roselle, Matthew Short of Roselle, Sarah Short of Norridge, and Jake Short of Norridge.

Mrs. Short is preceded in death by her sister, Marion Gaston and her brother Albert Kressman, Jr.

Mrs. Short was a resident of Glendale Heights 42 years and was formerly of Chicago.  She was a former member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glendale Heights and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Chicago where she was baptized.  Mrs. Short was a graduate of Austin High School and Wilbur Wright Jr. College.  She had worked as a Secretary for 8 years for Dr. James McCarty at the Oak Eye Clinic.

Jane SorensenJane E. Sorensen, nee Wilford, age 77, of Elmhurst, formerly of Berkeley, died peacefully Friday, March 28.

Visitation and Funeral Service will be held Thursday, April 3 with visitation from 9 AM to time of Service at 11:30 AM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 South Main Street, Lombard.

Interment will be Mt. Emblem Cemetery, Elmhurst, Illinois.

Mrs. Sorensen is survived by her daughter, Judith A. (Henry Graef) Sorensen-Graef; her son, David E. Sorensen; five grandchildren, Lauren (fiancé Patrick Schuster) Realmuto, Nicole Realmuto, Joseph, Matthew, and Margaret Sorensen; two sisters, Laura (Patrick Taugher) Wilford, and Nora (Marvin) Ernst;  her sister-in-laws, Gladys Canick, Lois Chess, Joan Cochrane, Jane (Marvin) Sorensen-Garber, and Carol Sorensen; many dear cousins; and many, many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.

Mrs. Sorensen is preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Sorensen; and many brother and sister-in-laws.

Mrs. Sorensen was a 1954 graduate of Steinmetz High School.    She had retired from Triton College Library in 2011.  Mrs. Sorensen enjoyed travelling especially with her grandchildren.  She was an avid reader and loved movies.

Donna Mae Ruth Petrie, nee Akerlund, age 72, of Lombard

DONNA MAE RUTH PETRIE, nee Akerlund, age 72, of Lombard, died March 27 at her home.

A visitation with the family will be at 9 AM on Saturday, April 5th at Faith United Methodist Church, 815 South Finley Road, Lombard, followed by a Memorial Service at 10 AM.

Interment Private.

Mrs. Petrie is survived by her husband of 52 years, Warren; three sons, Dean (Kim), Tod (Laura), and Dale (Wendy); seven grandchildren, Eric, Monique, Kyle, Monica, Corey, Frankie Ann, and Cassidy; many nieces and nephews; and her sister, Linda (Mike) Aronson.

Mrs. Petrie was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and John ‘Ed’ Akerlund.

Donna was a graduate of Niles Township High School in Skokie, Illinois.  She had retired from Inland Bank in 2013 after many years in the banking industry.  Donna was an active member of Faith United Methodist Church where she had served on many committees and in the nursery.  Donna loved her trips to Florida and cruises with her sister and husband to Florida.

Joyce H. Ackerman, age 83, of Lombard

JOYCE H. ACKERMAN, age 83, of Lombard, died March 23 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Downers Grove, Illinois.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 28 from 4 to 8 pm at Brust Funeral Home, 135 South Main Street, Lombard.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, March 29 at 11 AM at Brust Funeral Home.

Interment will be at Glen Oak Cemetery, Hillside, Illinois.

Mrs. Ackerman is survived by two children, Gary (Gloria) and Chris (Paul) Lauricella; two grandchildren, Paul (Carly) and Amanda Lauricella; and many other family and friends.

Mrs. Ackerman is preceded in death by her husband, William; and her son, Martin.

Mrs. Ackerman was a resident of Lombard since 1980.

Donna F. Korkowski nee Ward, Sis, age 77, of Lombard,

KorkowskiDonna F. Korkowski nee Ward, Sis, age 77, of Lombard, Illinois, passed away March 20, 2014.

 She was born in Chicago, Illinois,on June 2, 1936,to parents Lester and Emily nee Paulda Ward. She married Raymond Korkowski in Chicago, Illinois, on November 26, 1955.

 

Donna is lovingly remembered by her husband, Ray; daughter Linda Stawarski of O’Fallon, Illinois; son Bill Korkowski of St. Charles, Illinois; daughter Wanda (Christopher) Gavin; son Steve (Kristen) Korkowski  of Elmhurst, Illinois; grandchildren, Andrew (Lindsay Grant) Stawarski ; David (Andrew) Stawarski; Katharine Stawarski; Kimberly (Matt) Harper; Michael Korkowski; Alexis Korkowski, Alyssa Korkowski; great grandchildren, Landen Stawarski and Haley Lin Stawarski; brothers, Joseph Ward and Larry Ward.

Donna is preceded in death by her father, Lester Ward; mother, Emily nee Paulda Ward; and Thomas Stawarski, son-in-law.

 Donna has been known to shake up a mean game of Boggle; overbid in Pinochle; could finish a crossword puzzle from the Trib in one sitting; and loved gardening, sewing, drawing and painting, especially drawing holy pictures with chalk to pass Latin class. Her children have always admired how she could yell at the top of the stairs, “Ray-mond! Turn down that T.V.!”, and still be heard over a Cubs game.

 The visitation will be held at Brust Funeral Home, 135 South Main St., Lombard, Illinois, on Monday,  March 24, 2014, from 5-8 p.m. Prayers will be Tuesday, March 25 at 10 AM from Brust Funeral Home to Christ the King Church, 1501 S. Main St., Lombard, Illinois, for 10:30 AM Mass. Interment private.

Harold C. Rubel, age 93, of Lombard, formerly of Villa Park

American FlagHAROLD C. RUBEL, age 93, of Lombard, formerly of Villa Park, died March 10 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Downers Grove, Illinois.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 14 from 11:15 a.m. to the time of the Funeral Service at 11:30 a.m.  at Trinity Lutheran Church, York Center, Roosevelt at Meyers Road, Lombard.

Interment will be at Irving Park Cemetery, Chicago, Illinois.

Harold is survived by three sons, John (Elaine) of Plover, Wisconsin, Robert (Linda) Woodinville, Washington, and Will of Snohomish, Washington; four grand children, Leah Rubel of Washington, Jennifer Rubel of Washington, Mark Rubel of Wisconsin, and Karen Rubel of Addison; one great-grandchild, Baylie Collins of Washington.

Mr. Rubel was a resident of Lombard for 13 years and was formerly of Villa Park for 48 years.  He grew up on the North Side of Chicago, was a graduate of Lane Technical High School.  He was confirmed at Tabor Lutheran Church in Chicago.  He was Tool & Die Maker at Harrington & King Perforating Company in Chicago, becoming foreman of the department.  As a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Villa Park he served as chairman of the congregation, and was influential in forming a Boy Scout Troop at the church and became the first Scout Master and encouraging his two older sons to earn the Eagle Award.

Betty L. Eissler nee Poggendorf, age 87, of Lombard, died March 8 at Sunrise, in Glen Ellen.

Visitation will be held Friday March 14 from 9:30 AM until time of prayers, 10:30 AM at Brust Funeral Home 135 S. Main St. Lombard to St. Pius X Church for 11 AM Mass.

Interment will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.

Mrs. Eissler is survived by her husband of 68 years, Charles,  a son Mark (Laurie) of MI and two daughters, Holly K. (Jeffrey) Given of CA and Melanie (Thomas) Rottmann of Lombard; 6 grandchildren, Jonathan and Christie Eissler; Holly & Robert Rottmann and Caroline & Natalie Given.

Mrs. Eissler was a resident of Lombard since 1953. She worked as Secretary to the President at Charles A. Stevens. Mrs. Eissler also worked at Willowbrook High School and was a former volunteer secretary at St. Pius X Church. She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary and the Sweet Adelines Singing Group.

Kent C. Goldbranson, age 86, of Lombard

Kent C. Goldbranson, age 86, of Lombard, Vet WWII, died March 8 at Lexington of Elmhurst.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 12 from 3 to 9 PM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main Street, Lombard. Funeral service will be Thursday, March 13 at 9:30 AM from Brust Funeral Home to St. Pius X Church for 10 AM Mass. Interment will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, Illinois.

Mr. Goldbranson is survived by his daughter, Alison (Glen) Pari of Campton Hills: Two sons, Mark (Marybeth) of Berwyn and Eric (Gloria) of Darien. Seven grandchildren: Joseph Weinhold of Bartlett, James Weinhold of South Carolina, Jaclyn Pari of Campton Hills, IL, Jenny Pari of Campton Hills, IL, Megan Goldbranson of Darien, Andrew Goldbranson of Darien, Kathleen Goldbranson of Berwyn. Three great-grandchildren: James, Connor and Audrianna, a sister, Donna Adams and a brother Robert Goldbranson.

Mr. Goldbranson is preceded in death by his wife, Vera M. nee Mackle; his daughter, Gail; his grandson, Matthew; and his sister, Joyce.

Mr. Goldbranson was an Army Rifleman under General George Patton in Sicily, Italy and North Africa at ages 15-16. He was sent home to Sandwich, Illinois, like many “Gung-Ho” teenagers who were found to be under age. Mr. Goldbranson then completed his junior year at Sandwich High School. His family moved to Maywood, Illinois, where he completed his senior year at Proviso East High School and lettered in varsity football, basketball, and baseball. Mr Goldbranson re-entered the Army in 1945 where he and many friends from Proviso were shipped overseas to France, Germany, and Austria. After the war, Mr. Goldbranson worked for Commonwealth Edison for many years and retired in 1987. He was a member of Maywood Winfield Scott VFW Post #2193. Mr. Goldbranson was very proud of donating blood for over 60 years.

 Mrs. Slepicka is survived by her son, Christopher (Christine) of Lombard; her daughter, Lynn Frigon of Lombard; five (5) grandchildren; seven (7) great-grandchildren; and her brother, Ronald Grochowski.

Mrs. Slepicka is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene.

 Mrs. Slepicka was a resident of Lombard for 54 years.  She was a member of Lombard Moose Lodge #2350.

Mr. Bachar is survived by his wife, Nedra, nee Seiler; his daughter, Pamela (Gary) Lemley of Lombard; his son, David (Candace) Bachar of Wheaton; four grandchildren, Christopher, Laura, Chase, and Lake; three great-grandchildren, Alexa, Quinn, Makala; and his brother, Donald of Bolingbrook.

Mr. Bachar is preceded in death by his son, James Leonard Bachar.

Mr. Bachar was a resident of Lombard 50 years.  He was an Instructor at College of DuPage in their auto department.  Mr. Bachar was a retired Printer and member of CWA-ITA Typographical Printers.  He was a fisherman, bow and arrow hunter, enjoyed children’s sports, and was a handyman.  Mr. Bachar was a former member of the Masonic Lodge #974 A.F. and A.M.
