Frank F. (Fritz) DeLuca, 92 passed away peacefully on April 15th at Hines VA Extended Care Facility.  He is survived by his daughters; Michelle L. Korinko, and Sandra K. Gales, his grandchildren Tara S. Korinko, Nicole K. Korinko, Leah M. Korinki, Kayln M. Gales, and only grandson Ryan M. Gales.  A Memorial  gathering will be held Friday, April 25, from 5-8pm at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St. Lombard.

Born in Pennsylvania on August 5, 1921 to Louise and Frank Patsy Deluca our father lived a very interesting life.  He was smaller in stature only reaching 5’9”, but he was the toughest man I ever knew.

When he was 17, he lied about his age and joined the English army prior to U.S. involvement and receive the Britain Distinguished Service medal, Silver star for gallantry in action, and a P.O.W. medal for honorable service while a prisoner of war. When the U.S. did get involved he was in a branch of the army which was considered President Roosevelt’s private army, the OSS, the equivalent to the Special Forces of today. His missions were to blow up bridges in Europe, go behind enemy lines and free our prisoners risking his life to save others. He was a P.O.W. himself the longest duration being 3 months but he always escaped.  One time he escaped by skiing down a mountain where the enemy waited for him at the bottom.  He finished his military career as a staff Sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1945 forever being part of the “Greatest Generation” ever.

When he returned home he raced Harley Davidsons, was a dance instructor at the Dale Dance Studio in Chicago, and was hanging out with some shady Italian characters.  Our dad and mom met in 1960 and married soon after raising two daughters.  They ended up purchasing a home in 1965, Lombard where our dad remained until he could no longer take care of himself. His life’s work was as a brick mason and when he retired he took up many hobbies.  Mellowing with age he loved to fish, putts around in his garage, taking care of his yard, and flowers, building a koi pond, fixing things even some that didn’t need fixing, watching the Bears, and being with family.

Our father gave my sister and I many good qualities he made us the incredibly strong women we are today, the gift of creativity, curiosity and determination.  He will be deeply missed by his children, grandchildren, and friends.  He was one of a kind and will remain in our hearts always
