Frank J. Poskocil, age 85, of Lombard

American_Flag_x300Frank J. Poskocil, 85, of Lombard, IL, died peacefully July 29, 2017.  He is survived by his loving wife Patricia, daughters Cynthia (Ken Olinsky) Bonura of Miami Springs and Julia (John) Lohrmann of Chicago, and granddaughter Angela Bonura of Atlanta.

A Memorial Mass will be held Monday, August 7th, at 10:30 A.M. at Sacred Heart Church, 114 South Elizabeth, Lombard.  A Memorial Gathering will be on Sunday, August 6th, 2 PM to 7 PM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 South Main Street, Lombard.  Interment is Private.

Frank graduated from the University of Illinois as a mechanical engineer and spent his career at the research department of NICOR in Warrenville IL.  He was a veteran of the Korean War, an avid tennis player, and a patient Bears fan. Frank also volunteered at the Lombard Historical Society and Sacred Heart parish.  He enjoyed the later years of his life residing at Beacon Hill.

Edwin “Ed” John Latos, 95, of Lombard

Edwin “Ed” John Latos, 95, of Lombard, Illinois, passed away July 25, 2017.

Ed was born September 30, 1921 in Chicago, IL to John and Marcella (Prejik) Latos. He graduated from Central YMCA College, now known as Roosevelt University, in 1945.  On May 3rd 1947 he married the former Bertha Melvina Cecilia Kryspin in Chicago, IL. Ed was employed as a chemist and holds multiple patents in his field of lubrication and engineering.  He was a respected member of the American Chemical Society and was renowned for his problem solving abilities. He was an avid fisherman and golfer. Ed was very active in the community, volunteering at the 45th ward in the late 1960’s.  A member of the first school board at St. Constance School, Ed contributed his time to the building of both St. Constance Church and School.

Ed will be remembered for his quest for knowledge and deductive reasoning.

He was a devoted Father to Tom, Linda (Dickey) and Marilou (Collins) and a loving grandfather to Beth (Alymer), Melissa, Jonathan, Melanie and Emma and great-grandchildren, Shannon, Cailey, Kelsey and Daniel (Alymer).

In keeping with the wishes of Edwin Latos, the services will be private.

RETA ANNE MILLER SCHULTZ, age 88, of Northbrook

Reta Anne Miller Schultz, 88 years old, of Northbrook, Illinois, died July 22, 2017.

She was born October 19th, 1928 in Maywood, Illinois, the daughter of late Emma (Whitthoft) and Richard Charles Schultz.  She was the sister to Geraldine Miller-Metzger (John Metzger), Dorothy Miller-Christiansen (John Christiansen), Richard C. Miller, Bobby Miller, Donald Wayne Miller, Bonnie Miller-Wathen (Bill Wathen), and Leslie Miller-Woods (Jim Woods).

Reta graduated from Proviso East in 1946.  Starting at the age of 14, she worked for Illinois Bell as an operator for 20 years.  In June of 1952, at the Great Lakes Naval Base, she married Melvin J. Schultz at 24 years old. On August 10, 1953 they had son Kenneth J. Schultz and on July 23, 1956 they had son Charles K. Schultz.  They have resided in Northbrook, Il since 1971.

She is survived by her husband Melvin J. Schultz; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Joanne Schultz of Schaumburg, Illinois;  son Charles Schultz of Elmwood Park; grandchildren Arica Vancil, Allison Woodrich, Nicole Woodrich, Michelle Morawski, Kyle Schultz, Jake Schultz, and Kelsey Schultz.

A private family service will be held.

MARTINUS F. SORENSEN, age 74, Retired USAF

Visitation will be held Monday, July 24 from 4 to 8 PM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 South Main Street, Lombard.  Funeral Service will be Tuesday with Mr. Sorensen Lying-In-State from 9:00 AM to the time of Service at 9:30 AM at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 215 South Lincoln, Lombard.  Interment will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, Illinois.

Mr. Sorensen is survived by his wife, Linda, nee Alden; his daughters, Martina (Gary) Lydon of Roselle and Krista Sorensen of North Carolina; his step-son, William Buehler, Jr. of Utah; four grandchildren, Kyle Martin Lydon, Ryan and Donovan McCullough of North Carolina, and Emmalee Suzzane Buehler of Utah; his brother, Peter (Nancy) of Naperville; his sisters, Gerda Schauer of Florida, Ardis (Michael) Cicchella of Michigan, and the late Dagny; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Sorensen had retired from the U.S. Air Force serving during Desert Storm and had also served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam.

Mr. Sorensen had retired from the Lithographers Union Local #458 and had worked at Fort Dearborn Lithography.

He was formerly on the Board of Directors of the Camp Duncan YMCA.

Mr. Sorensen enjoyed woodworking and was a “fix-it” type person.

He loved his dog, Kip.

L. Tucker Matzek, age 91, of Lombard, passed away July 20, 2017.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 23 from 3 PM to 6 PM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main Street, Lombard. Funeral Services will be held Monday, with Mr. Matzek lying-in-state from 9:30 AM until time of service at 10:30 AM at First United Methodist Church, 155 S. Main Street, Lombard. Interment will follow at Mt. Emblem Cemetery.

Mr. Matzek is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia nee Hill; his loving children, Paula Matzek of Mt. Prospect, Elizabeth (James) Boaz of Colorado, and Peter (Salete) of Hayward, California; his dear sister, Martha Kirchman of LaGrange Park; and his 14 nieces and nephews.

Mr. Matzek was U.S. Navy Veteran who served in World War II from 1943 – 1945.

He was a graduate of Illinois Institute of Technology where he received his BS., MS. and MBA.

Mr. Matzek was a resident of Lombard since 1954.  He was a retired Electrical Engineer and a member of the I.E.E.E. (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.)  He worked for Motorola, Zenith and various other companies. Mr. Matzek was an active member of First United Methodist Church where he served on several committees. He also played the banjo and was an amateur magician and a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians.

Kathy Kocolowski passed away on July 13, 2017 in Winfield, IL

Kathy Kocolowski, nee Knuepfer, passed away on July 13, 2017 in Winfield, IL at the age of 52. She is survived by her husband, Jeff Kocolowski; her son, Connor; and her daughter, Kailey.

Kathy was born on June 20, 1965, and is survived by her loving mother Nancy and father Paul Knuepfer, who predeceased her. She grew up in a loving family with her brother and is survived by him, Paul Knuepfer, his wife Jen Knuepfer, and nephews, Kyle and Josh. Kathy is also survived by her father-in-law Ronald Kocolowski, late mother-in-law Loretta, brother-in-law Ken, sister’s-in-law Jennifer, Megan, husband Patrick McKenna, nieces Riley, Quinn, and nephew Carter.

Kathy was a gymnast at Willowbrook High School and graduated from Iowa State in 1986 with a degree in mechanical engineering. She was a driven professional and recently celebrated her 25th anniversary at Carrier as a mechanical engineer and project manager. Throughout her acclaimed career, Kathy led several major projects, such as Willis Tower, Chicago Art Institute, and the tallest building west of the Mississippi (to name a few).

Kathy enjoyed spending time with her family and close friends, especially at her beloved lake house in Monticello, IN. Kathy used her creative eye and knack for redesign to renovate the lake house into a beautiful and serene second home for her family; fearless with any saw or nail gun. She loved entertaining, hosting holiday celebrations and impromptu gatherings…sometimes with eclectic themes. Kathy always cooked creative, healthy, and organic dishes. She loved music, attending concerts, traveling, and yoga. Kathy’s warm and affable personality touched many, many people. She cherished her time at last year’s Knuepfer family reunion in Ouray, Colorado with everyone gathering from across various parts of the country. Kathy was looking forward to hosting her annual “girlfriend” trip and a gathering of all of the Knuepfer cousins, at the lake house near the end of this summer.

When Kathy was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007, she remained dedicated in her work and in her will to fight her illness. She remained a brave, iron-willed woman, even throughout her final months. Reappearing unexpectedly this spring, she fought hard with immense courage, beauty, and grace.

Visitation will be held Friday, July 21 from 3-8 PM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 South Main Street, Lombard, IL 60148. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 22  with viewing at 9:30 until time of service at 11:00 AM at Community Presbyterian Church, 1111 E. Madison St, Lombard, IL 60148.

Visitation will be held Sunday, July 16, from 2 to 5 pm at Brust Funeral Home, 135 South Main Street, Lombard.

Funeral Service will be held Monday, July 17, with Mrs. Dubrovin Lying-In-State from 10 AM until the time of Service at 11 AM at St. John’s Ev Lutheran Church, 215 South Lincoln, Lombard.

Interment will be at Elmlawn Cemetery, Elmhurst, Illinois.

Mrs. Dubrovin is survived by her daughter, Susan (Dave) Macleary of Antioch, IL; three sons, Victor P. (Angie) of Superior, Colorado, Edward C. of Cummings, Georgia, Leo Robert of Antioch; and the late Charles (the late Terry). Seven grandchildren, Carolyn Macleary of Elmhurst, Jon David “J.D.” Macleary of Chicago, Nicholas Dubrovin of Chicago, Michelle Dubrovin of Buffalo Grove, Illinois, Rachel Dubrovin of Springfield, Missouri, Katelyn Dubrovin of Georgia, and Kevin Dubrovin of Georgia; her sister, Charlotte Millett; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Dubrovin is preceded in death by her husband, Leo; her sisters, Loretta and Jane; and her brother-in-law, Andrew Millett.

Mrs. Dubrovin grew up in Lombard and attended St. John’s Lutheran Grade School and Glenbard West High School.  She lived in Melrose Park for 5 years, returning to Lombard in 1955.  Mrs. Dubrovin had celebrated 57 years of marriage.  She was a Beautician and a former owner of Loretta’s Beauty Studio in Lombard where she worked from 1941 to 2012.  Mrs. Dubrovin had been involved in the Lombard Women’s Club.  She was a Member of St. John’s Ev Lutheran Church.  Mrs. Dubrovin was a resident of Lexington of Lombard the last 4 years.

(Gregg) Archer; her cherished grandchildren, Robert C. Harnack, Alexander J. Harnack, Allison C., Matthew A. and Alexa N. Arlene was raised in Calumet City. She was a resident of Lombard for 36 years. Arlene was a former Peace Corp volunteer. She was also a registered nurse. Arlene was a 20 year cancer survivor. She was an active quilter and had a great eye for jewelry. Arlene loved her Papillon dog, Onree.

Past President, Delivered for Meals on Wheels, Volunteer for Easter Seals, Member of Lombard Newcomers, Member of C.E.R.T., Member of Horizon Village Quilters Guild, Member of the Red Hat Society, Proud Mother of 4 Eagle Scouts and “adopted” Mom of many other Eagle Scouts.  She loved the beach and loved dogs.  Her door was always open to anyone who needed help or just wanted to chat.

Deborah was a graduate of St. Catherine of Siena and a third generation graduate of Trinity High School in River Forest.  She received her A.D.N. and R.N. from Triton College.

Mrs. Cassin was a registered nurse of 45 years and loved serving her patients in Lombard, Elmhurst, Berwyn and Glen Ellyn.
