George J. Hazdra, age 95, of Naperville, formerly of Lombard

Hazdra-GeorgeGeorge James Hazdra, age 95, died peacefully on December 12, 2017 surrounded by his five children.

George was born in Chicago, IL on April 22, 1922 to Joseph and Mary Hazdra.  He attended Catholic schools along with his sister Dorothy and his brothers Joseph and Bernie.   His first job was as a very young boy selling fruit from his cart stand on the Chicago streets.

He studied at Marquette University and served as a Naval Aviator during WWII.  During the 1940’s and 1950’s he was professional singer and with his group, the Tune Criers, published several single records.  They played nationwide and appeared on the Authur Godfrey Show.  George continued to sing throughout his whole life at church events, weddings, funerals and with the Aeolians Choir.

George married Shirley Miller in 1949 in Rock Island, IL.  He formed Hazdra Homes and became a successful homebuilder and built many subdivisions in Lombard, Lisle, Glen Ellyn, Downers Grove and Naperville.  He retired at 60 years old and traveled the world with his wife Shirley and their many friends.

George is survived by his five children; Candace (Michael Pastore), Gary, Cody (James Smith), Gregory (Beth) and Jeff (Jill) and seven grandchildren; Lindsey, Ashley, Austin, Weston, Halston, Cooper, Garrett and four great-grandchildren; Lily, Sienna, Jacob and Aiden.   He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley in 2005 and his sister and brothers.

A celebration of his life will be held at the Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main Street, in Lombard on Sunday, December 17th from 2:00 – 7:00 PM.  A funeral Mass will be held at St. Irene’s Catholic Church located at 28W441 Warrenville Rd, Warrenville on Monday December 18th at 10:00 AM followed by a procession to Assumption Cemetery in Winfield.

Steve “Driveway” Hall, age 66, of Lombard

Hall, Michael S.Steve “Driveway” Hall, age 66, of Lombard, died December 4, 2017.

Visitation will be held Sunday, December 10, from 3:00 – 9:00 PM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main Street, Lombard. Lying in State Monday, December 11 from 9 AM until the time of the Funeral Service at 10 AM at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 215 S. Lincoln Ave., Lombard.  Interment Chapel Hill Gardens West, Oak Brook Terrace, IL.

Steve was the loving husband of Bonnie S. nee Knopp since 1989; loving father of Shelby of Princeton, WI and Morgan, of Lombard; dear brother-in-law of Dawn Knopp, of Glen Ellyn; fond uncle of 4:  Michael Max, Miranda Max, Marissa Max and Paul Max; and great-uncle of Adeline.

Steve was born in Booneville, Mississippi.  He lived in Lombard for 58 years and attended Glenbard East High School and graduated in 1968.  He was in the U.S. Army and went to Vietnam in 1970.  Steve attended College of DuPage.  He joined the Sheet Metal Workers Local 265, retiring in 2011.

Steve was a huge motorcycle enthusiast and Harley Davidson fan.  He loved boats & fishing, music and friends.

Irene Earnest nee Kamienski, age 93, of Lombard

Irene was the loving mother of Charles D. (Kathleena) of Carol Stream and Carol (Paul E.) Csech of Lombard; grandmother of 7:  Colleen M., of Carol Stream, Kelly L., of Carol Stream, Charles R. (Lauren), of Lemont, Kaylee (Ryan) Mundell of Georgia, Conner of Lombard, Krista of Lombard, Kurtis of Lombard; great-grandmother of Charlotte and Jack.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles D.

Funeral Service will be Friday, December 8, at 10:00 at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.  A Visitation will be held Thursday, December 7, 2017 from 3:00 to 8:00 PM.  Interment will be at Fairview Memorial Park, Northlake, IL

Irene grew up in Chicago and moved to the Lombard area in the 1950’s.  She retired from Gottlieb Company in Northlake.  Irene supported Moody Bible Institute.  She was an avid reader.

Dolores Joan Kowalski, age 90, of Glen Ellyn

KOWALSKI 1It is with great sadness that the family of Dolores Joan Kowalski announces the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother on her 90th birthday, December 1, 2017.

Dolores was born on December 1, 1927 to parents George and Bertha Robb (Noga) in Chicago, Illinois. She was married to Richard James Kowalski on January 19th, 1952 in Michigan City, Indiana. Richard passed in November 1991.

She was a resident of Glen Ellyn, Illinois for the past 24 years.

Dolores is survived by her three loving sons, Christopher Kowalski (Suzanne) of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, Kevin Kowalski (Gail Ann) of Park City, Utah, and Timothy Kowalski of Prophetstown, Illinois, as well as Grandchildren Katherine Kowalski, Emily Kowalski-McKillip (Matthew), Kelsey Kowalski, Kelley Kowalski, Kristopher Kowalski and Great Grandchild Eleanor.

A private service for immediate family members will be held on December 4th at Brust Funeral Home in Lombard, Illinois.
