Isabel (Liz) Gibson Iwanowski, age 76, of Lombard

Iwanowski, IsabelIsabel (Liz) Gibson Iwanowski, born February 19, 1943, in Hartford, Connecticut, departed this world on February 26,2019.  Isabel graduated from Highland Park High School on June 14, 1962.  She then attended Augustana Hospital School of Nursing graduating second in her class graduating on July 31, 1962.  She received her Bachelor of Science and Masters degrees from The College of Saint Francis in May, 1979. She was one of the first licensed Nurse Practitioners in the State of Illinois.  After working at Augustana Hospital, Gottlieb Hospital and Rush Hospital, Isabel settled on working as an industrial nurse in private practice specializing in risk management. She retired from the Greatlakes United States Postal Service in 2011, to spend time golfing and traveling with her husband, George Iwanowski, who predeceased her in May 2013.  Isabel is survived by her brothers Guy Gibson of Geneseo, Illinois; Ralph Gibson, of Largo, Florida;  her sister Martha Gibson McGinnis,  Lombard, Illinois; her nieces Rebekah Lazar of Lombard, Illinois; Michelle Gibson of East Moline, Illinois; Jenell Smith of Camarillo, CA; her nephews Adam McGinnis of West New York, New Jersey;  Robert Gibson of Silverdale, WA and Tim (John) Gibson of Buckley, WA. She is predeceased by her brother John (Woody) Gibson of Camarilla, CA.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 8th from 8:30 AM until time of prayers at 9:30 AM from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St, Lombard to Sacred Heart Church, ,114 S. Elizabeth, Lombard for 10 AM Mass.  The burial will take place immediately following the Mass at Queen of Heavens Cemetery, Wolf Road, Hillside, Illinois.

James D. Ryan II, age 91, of Lombard

James D. Ryan II, age 91, of Lombard, passed away on February 7, 2019.  James is survived by 2 sons, James D. (Janice) Ryan III and Terrance Ryan; 6 daughters, Marianne (Chuck) Rizzo, Jeannine (Tom) Lofgren, Maureen (Gary) Battistoni, Kathy (Terry) Burmeister, Peggy (Rick) Prochaska and Jenny Carperos; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Michael (Mary Catherine) Ryan and Terrance (Jude) Ryan; a sister, Sheila (Peter) Irmiter; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mildred (nee O’Neill.)

James was born on November 3, 1927, the son of James and Irene (nee Zimmerman). He graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1945.  James attended Northwestern University in 1945, where he played football.  He served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1946-1947.  James also attended the University of Illinois, where he also played football.

James married Mildred O’Neill on May 6, 1950 and raised 8 children.  They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary before Mildred’s passing on November 23, 2016.

James enjoyed his family, playing the guitar, watching the Bears, playing golf, woodworking and reading about the Civil War and WWII.

We are left with beautiful memories.

A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, April 5, 2019, at 10:00 AM at St. Pius X Church, 1025 E. Madison St., Lombard. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.

Anthony “Tony” Joseph Santucci, 96, lately of Wheaton, IL (formerly of Broadview)

Santucci, AnthonyAnthony “Tony” Joseph Santucci, 96, born on March 21, 1922 lately of Wheaton, IL (formerly of Broadview) passed away on Wednesday evening Feb. 20, 2019 of natural causes at Central DuPage Hospital.  Anthony was born in Chicago, son of the late Michael and Alessandra Santucci.  He was married to the late Lorraine (nee Jensen) Santucci for 69 years. While serving his country in the US Army for 3 years during World War II in the European Theater, he was wounded at the Battle of the Bulge.  Serving as a 2nd Lieutenant, he received the Purple Heart for military merit and was awarded the Coeur de Guerre from General DeGaulle.  After more than ten years of volunteering with his fellow veterans, “his guys,” at the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital, the thrill of Tony’s life was his trip with Honor Flight Chicago along with 90 other WWII veterans, an experience he shared with everyone. He loved to golf, dance to big band and swing music, swim and make great deals on cars.

Anthony had a colorful work history, a jack of all trades, and was most proud of his civil engineering accomplishments. He is survived by his four children Dennis (Judith) Santucci of Elmhurst, IL; Sandra (Santucci) Stamer of Glen Ellyn, IL; Michael Santucci of Prescott, AZ; and LinMarie DiCianni of Wheeler, OR.  He was grandpa to eight grandchildren, and had sixteen great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.  Anthony was preceded in death by his siblings Louis Santucci, Theresa Vigna, and Francis Santucci.

A memorial service will be held at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main Street, Lombard, IL at 11:30 AM on Saturday, March 2, 2019 with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM.

Rose Fenske, nee Burckhard, age 92 of Lombard

fenskeRose Fenske, nee Burckhard, age 92 of Lombard passed away Feb 24th, 2019 after a brief illness.

Rose is survived by her sons Don (Cynthia), Craig (Diane) and Jon (Cheryl); grandchildren Michele (Thomas) Heath, Julie, Megan, Taylor & David (Emily) Fenske; and 5 great grandchildren Lukas, Sophia, Ellie, Brennan & Brooklyn; sister Frances Jackson & Eva Gage; and many nieces and nephews.

Rose is preceded in death by her husband Dallas, son Jerry, sister Delores Campton, Betty Dunwoody, Theresa Brown, Marie Schumacher, Lana Kereszturi, brothers Raymond Burckhard. Joseph Burckhard.

Rose volunteered at Christ the King food pantry for 30 years.  She enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her family and friends.  Rose was named Woman of the Year from Christ the King Council of Catholic Women for 2008-2009.

Visitation will be Thursday February 28th from 3-8 at Brust Funeral Home 135 S Main St, Lombard.  Funeral services will be held Friday March 1st with prayers at 9:30am from Brust Funeral Home to Christ the King Church for 10am Mass.  Internment in South Dakota at a later date.

Richard “Dick” Lee Fox, age 88, of Villa Park

FoxAmerican_Flag_1_x1000Richard “Dick” Lee Fox, age 88, of Villa Park, died February 21, 2019 after a short illness.  Richard was the beloved husband of Marlene J. Fox for 67 years.

Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Sharon Pedersen and son-in-law Carl, grandson Adam (Nikki) and granddaughter Jennifer (Kevin).  Richard will always be remembered by his great grandchildren, Elaina, Clint, Brylee, Nicholas and Elliot.

Richard was born in St. Louis, MO as the only child of Harold and Dolan Fox.  He grew up in Oak Park, IL where he enjoyed spending time at the hardware store with his father.  Summers were spent in Hillsboro, IL on the family farm.

Richard was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, achieving the rank of Life Scout.  He played the violin, always achieving first chair in the orchestra.  After graduating from Oak Park Township High School in 1948, he enlisted in the IL National Guard and the US Air Force, where he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant with the 126th Medical Group until his honorable discharges in 1952.

While on a weekend pass home from the Air Force, he met Marlene on a blind date. From then on, he drove up to Berwyn, IL from Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, VA each weekend until they were married 3 months later.  After his discharge, he began his career at Marsh and McLennan Insurance Company.  He and Marlene took a brief break from his position to attend California State Polytechnic College where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering in 1964. They returned to Chicago and he resumed his position until retiring from Marsh and McLennan as a Vice President in 1992.

After retiring, he volunteered at Harvard Avenue Evangelical Free Church for many years, working to help maintain the building and overseeing the insurance.  He and Marlene enjoyed many adventures during their life together, and their dedication to the Lord was a guiding presence as they watched their family grow.

Richard will always be remembered for his love of Moose Tracks ice cream, saying “Go Mar Go”, and his quirky sense of humor.

A memorial gathering will be held Monday, February 25, 2019, from 4-8 pm at Brust Funeral Home, 305 S. Princeton Ave, Villa Park, IL.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday 10 am at Brust Funeral Home with internment to follow at Oakridge-Glen Oak Cemetery, 4301 W. Roosevelt Rd., Hillside, IL.

Dennis D. Denz, age 57, of Lombard

DenzDennis D. Denz, age 57, of Lombard, died February 19, 2019.  Dennis was the beloved husband of Kathleen M. nee Murphy; loving father of Caitlin and the late Austin; cherished grandfather of Victoria Denz and Kyrie Campbell; son of Leona and the late Robert (Ellie); dearest brother of Robert and William (Caroline); uncle and great-uncle of many; and his dog, Otto.

A Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 26, from 3-9 PM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, February 27 with Prayers at 9:45 AM from Brust Funeral Home to St. Pius X Church for a 10:30 AM Mass.  Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.

Dennis was a long time coach and board member for Lombard Falcons Youth Football League as well as a Youth Bowling Coach. He graduated from Universal Technical Institute where eventually took a job as a Ford fact instructor. He was a certified ASE master technician and has won numerous awards from Universal Technical Institute. He was a loving dedicated family man.

Martha Weller Vitale, age 96

Vitale-MarthaMartha Weller Vitale, age 96, passed away peacefully at home under the loving care of her family in Naperville, IL February 20, 2019.  Visitation will be held Saturday, February 23rd from 11:00 AM until the time of the Remembrance of Life Service at 3:30 PM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St, Lombard.

Martha was born in her family home in Covington, KY to Ernest Weller and Katharyn Stout. She was the preacher’s daughter, youngest of six, graduated from Garth High School, and was ahead of her time obtaining a business degree from the University of Kentucky.

After World War II, Martha married Sebastian Vitale in her Kentucky home, and was a longtime resident of both Broadview, IL and Los Angeles, CA. She attended the First Baptist Church of Maywood, and worked for many years at Hines V.A. Hospital even inviting foreign medical students to live in her home.  She instilled in her children her love of baking pies and decorating Christmas cookies as family traditions.

Martha retired and moved to Los Angeles to be closer to and support her siblings.  She attended Santa Monica Emeritus College.  She brought joy to many by singing in the Women’s Lyric Chorus at Santa Monica College.  She was determined to write short books about her siblings life stories after enrolling in a writing class Santa Monica Emeritus College.

She acted prolifically with the Westside Music Theatre in Culver City, CA, and was thrilled to be an advertising model in her 80s for a bus poster driven all across the LA Metro Region.  She also loved her bowling league throughout the years and was proud of her team trophies.

Martha could often be found buried in a crossword or sudoku puzzle.  She was technically savvy, learning to use a computer in her 70’s.  This led her to develop numerous creative digital greeting cards that joined her many photos of family and friends with her favorite musical accompaniments.

She enjoyed her travels to several European countries and Brazil. Her cats brought her joy and companionship throughout her life.  In her 90’s, she effortlessly played songs from early in her life.

Martha encouraged her children to be independent, and she is survived by 1 remaining sibling Dorothy Morris (Fresno, CA), 6 children, Louise Handel (Jeff), Linda Vitale, Laura Pruim (Roger), Sylvia Vitale, Sandra Vitale and Ben Vitale (Ana). She loved her 11 grandchildren (Justin, Chloe, Brent, Amber, Simone, Kelsey, Aubrey, Concetta, Sophia, Lucas and Joshua) and 3 great grandchildren (Ailee, Casey and Dorothy).

Betty R. Lawrence, 83, of Rock Falls, formerly of Lombard

Betty R. Lawrence, 83, of Rock Falls, died Monday, February 11, 2019 at home.

Born July 13, 1935 in Chicago, she was a daughter of Henry and Della (nee Tice) Gadbaw. On July 9, 1955 she married Glenn Lawrence in Chicago. He died September 1, 2014.

Betty enjoyed embroidering, reading and doing puzzles. She and Glenn traveled around the United States to many places but she especially enjoyed their trips to Hawaii.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Susan (Steven) Adams of Rock Falls; her sons, Michael (Sabrina) Lawrence of Schiller Park, Charles Lawrence of Elgin, and Steven (Patricia) Lawrence of Oregon; her grandchildren, Rebecca, Joshua, Heather, Christopher, Andrew, Nicholas, Angelia, Brian, Megan and Kaitlyn; her great grandchildren, Anthony, Dominik, Mia, Molly, Oliver, Ryleigh, Jax, Noah and Breck; her sister Joan King of Florida and a brother Marvin Gadbaw of Chicago.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2019, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM with a Memorial Service at 2:30 PM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.

Freetly, ElaineElaine H. Freetly nee Smith, age 95, of Lombard, died February 15, 2019.  Elaine was the beloved wife of 49 years of the late Joseph W.; loving mother of Helen E. (David) Palochko and Stephen L. (Ann); cherished grandmother of Carol, Leigh, Amie and Clarissa; great-grandmother of Lillian; sister of Thomas and the late Horton Smith; aunt and great-aunt of many.

Elaine had been a 65 year resident of Lombard.  She was along-time member of Lombard Bible Church and taught Sunday School at the First Church of Lombard.  She was a former employee of the Village of Lombard.

Beloved husband of Celsa Ochoco-Madamba for 54 years.  Loving father of Richard (Mary Grace Adams), Francis (Dawn Keglar) and Bennett.  Adored grandfather of Steven, Matthew and Lauren.  Son of the late Ramona and Ulpiano Madamba, Sr.  Dear brother of Delia Carnate (Joe), Leticia Azura (Paul), the late Cesar and the late Jose.  Survived by sisters-in-law Lilia Madamba, Carmelita Madamba and Pagasa Ochoco.

Funeral services for immediate family only will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2019, at Brust Funeral Home in Lombard.  Interment will be at Acacia Park Cemetery in Norridge.
