RUTH LOMBARD, nee Walker, age 88, of Lombard

Wednesday, November 6th, 2019

Lombard, Ruth

Ruth Lombard nee Walker was born on March 4th, 1931  and she was called to her heavenly home on November 4th, 2019 in Lombard, IL.  She was the daughter of late Marshall and Christell Walker.  She was born in Homer, Louisiana.  She shared her life with the late Eldor Lombard for 25 years.  She was the caring mother to JoAnn Lombard and the loving grandmother to Terrence (Lauren) Lombard.  She was the great grandmother to Joshua, Tristan, and Kennedy.  She was the amazing sister to the late Marshall, James, Bobbye, Mary, Charles.  She was the beloved Aunt and Great Aunt to many nieces and nephews.  She was the bestie to the late Betty Joens and she never let her sidekick the late Neo stray too far.

Ruth started paving a way for herself when at a young age she moved from Louisiana to Chicago in 1952 with $20 in her pocket. This move is what allowed Ruth to not only help herself become an independent woman, but it allowed her to help so many people in her life in so many ways.

She showed her independence when after moving to Chicago she started working at a newspaper stand.  This is where she met her loving husband Eldor and as always demonstrated her strength and perseverance to break barriers in her life and in the world.   She started working at JCPenney in 1969 and she worked there for 28 years.  After moving from Maywood to Lombard in 1978 she waited for an opening to transfer to the Lombard store.  That is where she met her lifelong friend the late Betty Joens.

Ruth loved living her life to the fullest.  She never turned down spending time with her many friends.

She and her friends enjoyed going to plays at Drury Lane and a lunch or dinner was never far off.  She enjoyed traveling anytime she could.  When traveling was not an option she would watch travel shows on tv.  She loved talking about history with anyone who would listen.

She finally got see Terrence her grandson marry the love of his life Lauren and was the FIRST to volunteer her personal guest list.   She enjoyed every minute she spent with her great grandchildren.  They brought so many smiles to her face.

She enjoyed walking regularly to stay healthy and spend time with her friends.   Felix, Heidi, Jill and Bea were all her regulars for her morning walk.  Every September all of her friends knew she would soon be raising money for the Crop Walk.   She did the Crop Walk religiously in Villa Park for 21 straight years.  This past year was her last at 88 years old.   Her goal every year was to raise just a little more than she did the year before and Terrence always needed to make sure he beat everyone else’s pledge. She COUNTED on that!

She volunteered at her church as an Altar Guild and recruited her daughter JoAnn to help with the creative arts at her church. She was a Lady Elk and she not only helped with initiations but was also a huge recruiter for them.  She worked their annual rummage sale where there proceeds went on to help women and food pantries.  She was one of the most giving people you could ever know.  She was always looking for ways to help anyone who was in need.

Ruth Lombard was an Amazing woman who helped everyone she encountered to be a little better human being.
