Hans Oscar Henke, age 86, of Lombard, died on January 29, 2020.

A visitation will be held Monday, February 3rd from 4- 7 PM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St, Lombard. Interment will be private.

Hans is survived by his beloved wife, Mathilde; his loving son and daughter-in-law, Rob and Natascha, and many nieces and nephews in both the U.S. and Germany.

Hans was born in Waldenburg, Germany in 1933. After WWII, he emigrated to the United States, along with his father, mother, and brother. They settled in the Chicago Suburbs. Hans served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1958, stationed in Europe.

A great lover of books and ideas, Hans lived in Lombard from 1972 until his death.

Michael T. Kelly, age 51, of Lombard, passed away January 28, 2020.

Michael was the beloved husband of Elizabeth “Liz” nee Breitzman; loving father of Danny and Aidan;  cherished son of Ellen Kelly of Crete, Illinois and the Late Tom; dear brother of Jim (Laura) Kelly of Peotone and Kim (Rob) Walker of Peotone; fond uncle of  Ryan, Sean, Kayla, Jake, Matthew, John and Luke; dear brother- in- law of Cathy, Becky, and the Late John. Many cousins, other relatives, and many friends.

A Memorial Visitation will be held Friday, February 7th from 2 pm to 8 pm with a Memorial Service at 7 pm at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St, Lombard.

Michael was a resident of Lombard for 23 years.  He grew up in Peotone, Illinois and was a 1987 graduate of Peotone High School.  Mr. Kelly worked for AON Insurance as a Computer System Architect.  He loved animals, camping, and spending time with his sons and family.

James R. Olsen, age 81, of Westchester, formerly of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, and Lombard, died January 27 at Loyola Hospital.

James was the beloved husband of Marilisa Jurasas and the late Rose Olsen, his first wife; loving father of Keith (Denise) of Glen Ellyn, the late Kurt, the late Kenneth (Karen) of Lombard; fond grandfather of 7; great-grandfather of 5; step-father of Eric (Mary) Jurasas of Downers Grove, John Paul Jurasas of Downers Grove and Stephanie (Lou) Davila of Morton, IL; step-grandfather of 7; and many other relatives.

James had been a resident of Lombard from 1960 to 1993 and had lived in Arkansas since then.

James retired from ComEd.

Sandra was the beloved wife of James “Mike”; loving mother of Jimmy (Liz) and Jeff (Sarah); cherished grandmother of Jake, Alexis, Alex, Zoe and Hailey; great-grandmother of Geo; dearest sister of  Madeline Volek, Paul (Frances) Stamper, and Debbie (Larry) Baszkowske; aunt and great-aunt of many.

Gloria C. Lino, nee Favarulo, age 90, of Lombard, died January 21, 2020.

Gloria was the beloved wife of the late John C; dear sister of the late Frank Favarulo and the late Marie (Gerry) Christopher; and four nieces and one nephew, and many great nieces and great nephews.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 25, at 10 AM at Chapel Hill Gardens West in Oakbrook Terrace.

Gloria had been a resident of Lombard since 1962.  She grew up in Chicago.

Gloria was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.  She retired from Illinois Bell in 1985.

Gloria was a member of Sacred Heart Church.

Gloria’s passion was animals, especially her beloved pet Dachshunds.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ASPCA or the Humane Society.

LaVerne E. Smith nee Stelter, age 86, lifelong resident of Lombard, died January 19 at her home.

LaVerne was the loving wife of the late Roger P. “Codge”; dear mother of Barbara (James) Gorvad of California, Elizabeth (Paul) Sanko of Lombard, Roger P., Jr. of Lombard and Michael John Smith of California; Fond Grandmother of Bob (Maria) Sanko of Lombard and Stuart of Lombard; dear sister of Emily Bonette of California, Audrey (Dr. Anthony) Cooper of California; the late Henry Stelter, Sr., the late Leonard Stelter, the late Virginia Seiler, and the late Marlene Troyke; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.  She was the darling daughter of the late Henry F. D. and Hattie Stelter of Lombard.

A Visitation will be held Thursday, January 23, from 2-8 PM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Funeral Services are set for Friday, January 24, with LaVerne Lying-in-State from 9:30 AM until the time of the Funeral Service at 10:30 AM at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 215 S. Lincoln Ave., Lombard.  Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Gardens West, Oakbrook Terrace.

LaVerne was born at home in Lombard at 349 W. Harrison.  She was Baptized and Confirmed at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church and was a lifetime member there.  She graduated from St. John’s School and was a 1950 Graduate of Glenbard Township High School.  In 1948, LaVerne won the State Baton Twirling Contest.

LaVerne was very active at St. John’s, where she was a Sunday School Teacher, played handbells, was a former choir member and a former member of the Stewardship Board.  She was a 20-year volunteer at Walcamp as an Outdoor Education Leader, a 50-year AAL volunteer and volunteered at ESSE.

LaVerne was also active in the community.  In 1975, LaVerne opened the Lombard Community Senior Center and served for over 40 years as its Director.  She was the 1975 Lombard Woman of the Year.  She also was a Girl Scout leader.

LaVerne enjoyed traveling and playing bridge.  She was a friend to all, including all the Lombard Seniors.

Elizabeth S. “Liz” Dominguez, nee Garcia, age 48

DominguezElizabeth S. “Liz” Dominguez, nee Garcia, age 48, was born July 3, 1971 in Chicago, the daughter of Cesar and Irene, nee Malinowski, Garcia.  Liz was raised in Lombard, Illinois and graduated Glenbard East High School.

Liz was the beloved wife of the late Fidel, whom she married in 1994 in a lovely garden ceremony in Lombard.  Fidel passed away in 2003.

She was the loving mother of Fidel Dominguez Jr., Desiree Dominguez and Paul Comitz Jr.; cherished granddaughter of Sabina (Late Jerzy) Malinowski; dear sister of Tanya (Glen) Michiels, Paul (Julie) Garcia-Nelson, Alex (Mary-Kate) Garcia and Christina (William) Cook; fond aunt of Crystal, Jacob, Jonathan, Brooklyn and Graclyn; great-aunt of Kenzie and Steve Jr. “SJ”; dear niece of John (Mary Ann) Malinowski.

Liz happily replied to the nickname “Sugar” which her father gave her.  As often as possible, music by Elvis Presley would be playing wherever she was. Liz was a beautiful woman, always smiling, always generous.  She had a big heart and was ready to help anyone.  Liz will be missed by all who knew her.

Margaret Lillian Acton (nee Bell) (85) passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 16, 2020

Acton-Margaret 2ROCKFORD – Margaret Lillian Acton (nee Bell) (85) passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 16, 2020. Margaret was born in Chicago, IL in 1934, living her formative years in Oak Park and then Villa Park, and attended York High School in Elmhurst, IL. Margaret is survived by her loving husband Raymond of Lombard, IL to whom she was married 67 years. Beloved mother of Thomas (Carol), Linda (James Ferguson) and Robert (Polly).  Margaret was a cherished grandmother of 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Margaret is preceded in death by her children Laura Dawn, Karen Louise and James Russell, her brother James Bell, her mother Dorothy Bell, and her father James Bell Sr.  While raising three of her children, Margaret had the unique experience of dedicating almost two decades to providing daily therapeutic care to her children who were afflicted with Cystic Fibrosis (CF). Margaret would spend several hours daily treating the effects of this critical respiratory and digestive disease. This determined effort was also reflected in her resolve to live a full life despite the ever-increasing effects of Parkinson’s Disease. Margaret was a devoted member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, serving congregations at Trinity Lutheran Church, York Center, IL (41 years) and First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Grand Rapids, MN (20 years) where she and Ray made many dear, lifelong friends. In addition to regular worship attendance and participation in Bible study, Margaret enjoyed sharing her needlecraft talents, making quilts and other crafts for the benefit of others. Ray and Marge hand-built countless wood projects for gifts to their family, friends and donations for charitable causes. Margaret loved homemaking, cooking, being outdoors, vegetable gardening, fishing on Wasson Lake with Ray, their children and grandchildren, taking long walks, and evening card games friends and family. A funeral service celebrating Margaret’s life in Christ which continues eternally, will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lindenwood, Illinois, officiated by Rev. Dr. Matthew Rosebrock, husband to Margaret’s granddaughter Kimberly Rosebrock.  Margaret will lie in state beginning at 9:00 am on Monday January 20, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 am. Graveside services will commence at 1:00 pm at Mount Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst, IL. In lieu of flowers, the Family asks that any memorial gifts extended in Margaret’s honor be forwarded to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lindenwood, IL. The Family also extends our most sincere expression of gratitude to the Wesley Willows Community as well as to Heartland Hospice for the compassion, friendship and love shown to Margaret.

William D. Janowski, age 56, of Elmhurst, died January 12, 2020, at his home.

William is survived by a brother, Steven Janowski, of Elmhurst.  He was preceded in death by his parents, the late William and Marion (nee Sibley).

William was a life-long resident of Elmhurst, Illinois.  He graduated from York High School in 1981.

William loved music, particularly rock, jazz and blues.  He was an avid music historian with a large record collection.

Alice E. “Betty” McVickar (nee Jordan) age 98, of Villa Park, died January11, at Elmhurst Hospital.

Betty was the beloved wife of the late Franklin “Coleman”; beloved Mother of Robert and Julia McVickar, Bonnie and Roger Wachter, and James and Robin McVickar; treasured Grandma to Todd and Angelica, Richard and Tiffany, Susan and Josh Navone, Ryan and Danea, Andrew and Nicole Wachter, Sean, Ian, Kandace, and Carlos; and precious Great Grandma to Robert, Kevin, Nathan, Kayla McVickar, Sophia Novone, Adelyn, Aubrey, and Avery Wachter.

Betty was a retired OB/GYN Tech and Professional Grandma.
