Janette M. Roath, nee Eckman, age 91, of Lombard

Janette Marilyn Roath nee Eckman, born November 11, 1928, went home to be with her Savior on March 25, 2020.  Janette was born at Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago, the first child of Arvid and Sylvia Eckman.

Janette attended a Lutheran School in Maywood through 3rd grade. Her family then moved to Lombard, where she attended Lincoln School, graduating in 1942, and Glenbard High School, graduating in 1946.  Janette studied at Wheaton College for two years. She then trained as a comptometrist and worked in the accounting department of the U.S. Rubber Company.

Janette married her high school sweetheart, LeRoy, on June 4, 1949. She was grateful that she was able to be a full-time homemaker, and poured her energies into creating a warm and loving home, while actively supporting her husband in his business. She helped to create the annual Roy’s Auto Christmas letter and typed the hundreds of mailing addresses for sending them to his customers. Her cherished roles of wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother were fulfilled with love and kindness, patience, faith, and prayer.  Through her gift of hospitality, Janette graciously welcomed family and friends to her home for Sunday dinners and many special occasions.

Janette served in many ministries at the Lombard Bible Church including Bible Studies, Ladies’ Meetings, the Seniors Group, and as a deaconess. For many years she guided the class for the 2 and 3 year old children and welcomed many new babies to the Cradle Roll with wise advice and home-baked cookies for the families.  As a resident of the Beacon Hill Retirement Community, Janette volunteered in positions of leadership and community service.

Janette was preceded in death by her loving husband LeRoy J. Roath, Jr. and by her parents, Sylvia and Arvid Eckman.

She is survived by her brother Ray (Ginny) Eckman of Arkansas; daughters Linda (Bruce) Masopust of Michigan, Cindy (Ken) Cox of Florida, and Andrea (Ryan) Harris of Wisconsin; 5 grandchildren: Brian Masopust of Michigan, Beth (Eric) Hull of Michigan, Zach (Elspeth) Harris of Chicago, Ethan Harris of Wisconsin, Linnea (Ryan) Geller of Wisconsin; 2 great-grandchildren, Tate and Jordyn Hull; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A Private Service for the Family will be held on Monday, March 30, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment will follow at Arlington Cemetery, Elmhurst. Plans for a Memorial Service have not been decided.

Mary Alice D’Arcy nee DeSutter, MSW, LCSW, age 77, of Lombard

Mary Alice D’Arcy, MSW, LCSW

Mary Alice D’Arcy of Lombard, IL died on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at the Maple Glen Memory Care Community in Glen Ellyn, IL.

She was born on Jan. 4, 1943 in Chicago, IL and was the daughter of John Joseph and Loretta Marie (nee McMullin) DeSutter. Her siblings were: John R. “Jack” (died 1988), Carol (died at birth), and Francis (died from polio 1948).

A graduate of Loyola University, Chicago, social work was her calling in life.  She was a member of the Wheaton Franciscan Sisters for 20 years and held appointed and elected positions of leadership, such as Executive Director of Marian Park, Inc. in Wheaton, IL.

She worked at Easter Seals DuPage & Fox Valley for 35 years.  Beginning as a social worker, she became President and CEO for 15 years and devoted herself to assisting children with disabilities and their families.  She served on several boards of directors.

She is survived by her husband William (Bill) D’Arcy (married 1983); niece Julie (Kevin) Fry, nephew Michael (Laurel) DeSutter, niece Jennifer (John) Causey,   great nieces, great nephews, and many cousins.

Due to the COVID-19 virus, there will be no public viewing or services at this time.  A funeral visitation and memorial mass will be held at a later date to be announced.

Catherine (Cathy) L. Geis, age 59, of Lombard

Catherine (Cathy) L. Geis, age 59, of Lombard, passed away on March 18, 2020 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Cathy is survived by her loving son, Joshua Geis; sisters Paula (Rich) Greger, Patricia (Ronald) Cochran, Elizabeth (Joseph) Neu, Linda (Paul) Hafenbreidel; aunt JoAnn Costello; special cousin Laura Geis; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Virginia Geis.

Cathy was a life-long resident of Lombard.  She graduated from Glenbard East High School in 1978 and from Eastern Illinois University in 1982 with a degree in computer science.  Following college, she enrolled in the U.S. Army and served in Germany.  She worked in a few law firms following her career in the Army, the last as an office manager for Daspin and Aument.

Cathy was very involved as a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Lombard, where she served as a deacon.  She loved working with the youth groups at the church, providing guidance and leadership.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at 10:00 at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St. Lombard, IL  60148.  A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00.  There will be a private burial at Moline Memorial Park in Moline, IL.

Marie K. Seiwert, nee Kiener, age 99

Marie K. Seiwert, nee Kiener, age 99, a longtime resident of Villa Park, was currently at Villa Scallabrini, retired from Village of Villa Park.

Private prayers held at Brust Villa Park Funeral Home to Assumption Cemetery for burial.  Mass of Resurrection pending when public Masses are allowed at St. Alexander’s Catholic Church, 300 S. Cornell Avenue, Villa Park.

Marie was the loving mother of:  John (Sue) of Minneapolis, MN;  Dr. Andrew (Anna) of Perrysburg, OH; Paul (Theresa) of Aubrey, TX; Phillip (Sue) of Bloomingdale, IL; and Barbara (Gerry) Arcaro of Elmhurst; fond grandmother of:  Allison, Carla, Lauren, Elise, Renate, Karl, Monica, Paula, John, Danielle, and Peter; cherished great-grandmother of: Charlie, Eva, Annie and Wesley;  treasured Aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Peter, and 4 brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Seiwert was the retired secretary of the Village of Villa Park. Prior to that, she was the Executive Secretary for the Chairman of the Board at Regensteiner Printing in Chicago.  She lived in Villa Park since 1956.  She was the Treasurer for the St. Alexander Boy Scout Troup #66.  She also volunteered her time with the Villa Park Historical Society and helped at St. Alexander’s Catholic Church.

Clare L. Deardorff, nee Greenwood, age 83, of Lombard

CLARE L. DEARDORFF, nee Greenwood, age 83, of Lombard died March 17 at home.

Mrs. Deardorff is survived by her son, Stephen of Elk Grove Village, and her daughter, Therese M. (John “Jay”) Sayles of Downers Grove; and her granddog, “Wolfy”.

Mrs.  Deardorff is preceded in death by her brother, John (Barbara) and her sister, Sister Mary Janice Greenwood.

Memorial Mass is pending at Christ the King Catholic Church in Lombard, after current hiatus.

Mrs. Deardorff was a resident of Lombard since 1963.  She was a graduate of the College of St. Francis.

Mrs. Deardorff had retired after 25 years as an Administrative Assistant for Tel Assist.

An avid Bingo player, Mrs. Deardorff had also played piano for the Lilac Town Seniors as well as the Rising Stars Theater Company.  She had also taught piano.

Mrs. Deardorff was an active member of Christ the King Church and was formerly active at St. Pius X Church.

Dorothy A. Ryan nee Patrick, age 94, of Lombard

Dorothy A. Ryan nee Patrick, age 94, of Lombard, passed away March 15, 2020.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 18th from 9 AM until time of service at 11 AM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main Street, Lombard. Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.

Dorothy was the beloved wife of the late Bernard “Tom” Ryan. She was preceded in death by her 11 brothers and sisters. Dorothy is survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Dorothy was born in Iowa and graduated from Roosevelt High School in DesMoines. She became a resident of Lombard in 1951. Dorothy retired from American Reinsurance in 1987 and from Pitney Bowes Insurance Co. in 1993.

She was an active member of the Latin Rite Traditional Catholic Church.

JoAnn L. Scheiwiller nee Outley, age 81, of Lombard, died March 13th, at her home.

JoAnn was the beloved wife of Herbert; loving mother of Paul (Alicia) of Lima, OH, and Michael (Tami) of Bourbonnais; cherished grandmother of Sarah of Columbus, OH, Megan (Fiancé Marc Salas) of Cridersville, OH, Emily of Columbus, OH, Allison of High Pointe, NC, and Zachary of Bourbonnais; loving great-grandmother of Evelyn Salas of Cridersville, OH; dear sister of LaVerne Goyette of Lyons; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

JoAnn was born in Chicago and grew up in Berwyn.  She graduated from Morton High School in 1956 and went to Nursing School at Grant Hospital.  JoAnn was a Registered Nurse working for the State of Illinois.  She retired in the early 2000’s.

JoAnn had been married for 58 years.  She had been a member of the Lombard Service League in Lombard since 1968.

JoAnn had many hobbies…she loved puzzles, games of chance and she loved jokes.

JoAnn was close to her grandchildren and loved spending time with them.

Henry J. W. Tait, age 77, of Lombard, died March 11, 2020.

Henry was the loving husband of Nancy nee Pennie; loving father of Kathleen (Jeff) Thomas, of Florida, and the late Brian; grandfather of Cody Thomas of Florida, Kasey Gabriel of Florida, Gregory Gabriel of Florida, Kyle Thomas of Florida, Emily Gabriel of Florida and Timothy Gabriel of Florida; dear brother-in-law of Susan (Peter) Young of Schaumburg, Carol Buttitta of Westmont, Lawrence (Arlene) Pennie of Bloomington, William (Helga) Pennie of New Jersey, Thomas (Ann) Pennie, of Pennsylvania, Donna (Dave) Olsen of New Jersey, Margo (Jay) Buerger of New Jersey, and Richard (Jean) Pennie of New Jersey; and many nieces and nephews.

Henry was preceded in death by his son, Brian; and 2 sisters, the late Rosalie and the late Marilynn.

Henry had been a resident of Lombard for 48 years.  He attended Lewis University in Lockport.

Henry was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Vietnam Era in the U.S. He retired from American Gasket & Rubber Company where he worked as an Engineer.

Henry was an avid fisherman, camper and artist.

A Graveside Service will be held Monday, March 16, meeting at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at 10:15 AM for 10:30 AM Military Honors.

Rosemarie E. Stachura, nee Huber, age 95, of Lombard, died March 3, at Brookdale of Glen Ellyn.
Mrs. Stachura is survived by six (6) children, David (Christine), Jack (Chrystal), Kathleen, James (Roxana), Marikay (Paul) Dahlin, and Sheryl (Dan) Pollack; and five (5) grandchildren, Suzanne, Steven, Marissa, Jaime (Erik), and Jason (Indra).
Mrs. Stachura is preceded in death by her husband, John.

Wesley H. Helsten, age 76, of Villa Park, died March 1, 2020.

Wesley was the loving husband of Barbara nee Korba; loving father of Ann (Eric) Ford of Bartlett and Wesley T. (Annie) of Mesa, AZ; loving grandfather of Kerstin of Buffalo, NY, Kaitlyn of MI, Hunter of Mesa, AZ, and Landen of Mesa, AZ; and loving brother of Ernest W. of Munster, IN.

A Visitation will be held Thursday, March 5, from 3-9 PM at Brust Villa Park Funeral Home, 305 S. Princeton Ave., Villa Park.  Funeral Service will be held Friday, March 6, at 10 AM, also at Brust Villa Park Funeral Home.  Interment Private at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.

Wesley was born in Chicago.  He attended grade school and high school in Hammond, Indiana.  He was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force, where he served from 1961-1965 during the Vietnam War.

Wesley attended Lewis College in the Aircraft Maintenance Program, graduating in 1967.  He worked for American Airlines at O’Hare Airport from 1967-2012, when he retired after 25 years.

Wesley loved hunting, fishing and baseball.  He enjoyed working with and on computers.
