Mary T. “May” Looby, age 89, of Minooka, formerly of Morrison and Lombard

 Mary T. “May” Looby, age 89, a resident of Minooka, IL and a past resident of Morrison, IL and Lombard, IL, went home to the Lord on Friday, June 26th, 2020.  She was born on August 9th, 1930 in Castleisland, County Kerry, Ireland to Patrick and Mary (nee – Murphy) Reidy.

May immigrated to the United States in May, 1950 and entered America through Pier 56, New York.  She worked in New York City doing odd jobs, but mainly worked as a waitress.  She met her future husband, William F. Looby, at an Irish dance in New York City while he was on leave from the US Army prior to being shipped off to South Korea where he served as a linesman during the Korean War.  Upon his return and discharge from the Army, they moved to Chicago where they lived in the Logan Square neighborhood and subsequently married at St. Rita’s Church on October 15th, 1955.  They also lived in homes in Villa Park, IL from 1958 until 1960 and Lombard, IL from 1960 until 1998.  May also lived in Morrison, IL from 1998 until 2010 and in Minooka, IL from 2010 until she was called home.  May and William loved to get together with friends and relatives from the old country.  They were members of the West Suburban Irish-American Club and were active in the monthly dances and the yearly summer picnic.  May was rooted in her Catholic faith and beliefs; she is a past member of Sacred Heart Church.

May was a great story teller of her childhood in Ireland, Irish History and of Irish Folklore.  From being lost in a field that she knew like the back of her hand to being chased by a Banshee, from going to local dances to being taught grade school by nuns.

May is survived by her five children, Catherine Looby; Mary (Bruce) Calvert; John (Meri Jo) Looby; William K. (Allison) Looby and Philomena Elias. She also is survived by her nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

May is preceded in death by her parents, Patrick and Mary Reidy; by her husband, William F. Looby; by her brothers Patrick, and Tadhg; and by her sisters Norrie, Sheila, and Eileen.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 5th, 2020 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 South Main Street, Lombard, IL.  A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 6th, 2020 at 10:15 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 114 South Elizabeth Street, Lombard, IL.  Graveside services will follow at Assumption Cemetery, 1S510 Winfield Road, Wheaton, IL.

Barbara J. Murphy nee Zolna, age 80, of Lombard, formerly of Downers Grove for 50 years

Barbara J. Murphy nee Zolna, age 80, of Lombard, formerly of Downers Grove for 50 years, died June 24, 2020.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 1st from 3 – 8 PM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main Street, Lombard. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, July 2nd, with prayers at 9:30 AM from Brust Funeral Home to Sacred Heart Church, 114 S. Elizabeth St, Lombard, for 10 AM Mass. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice, IL

Barbara was the beloved  wife of the late Thomas D., retired C.F.D.; loving mother of Tom J. of Calif, Jean Marie (Oscar) Tuscano of Calif, James Robert Murphy of Calif, Patti Dee Murphy-McMahon of Chicago, Colleen Marie Murphy of Calif, Maribeth (Mark) Millett of Lombard, and Michael Anthony Murphy of Calif; cherished grandmother of 14; fond great-grandmother of Leon, Rory and Fox; dear sister of Robert (Luce) Zolna of Chicago. She had many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Barbara grew up on the south side of Chicago. She graduated from Lourdes High School and was the Valedictorian of her class. Barbara graduated with a BS/RN degree from St. Francis College. She went on to get her MBA at George Williams College.

Barbara was the Head Nurse in ICU for 5 years at Rush Presbyterian in Chicago. She worked at Hinsdale Hospital for 17 years as the Director of Quality Assurance. Barbara was then the Vice President of Quality Assurance at Grant Hospital. She went on to be the Director of Quality Assurance at Medicon Co. She worked 10 years as a Registered Nurse at Lexington Healthcare in Elmhurst.

Barbara was a volunteer at Good Samaritan Hospital. She was a member of the Red Hat Society in Downers Grove. Barbara was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Lombard, and a former member of St. Joseph Church in Downers Grove.

Barbara was a loving grandma. She was involved with her grandchildren’s  activities at Sacred Heart School when they attended there.

Mary M. Churchman nee Shanks, age 91, of Lombard

Mary M. Churchman nee Shanks, age 91, of Lombard, passed away June 23, 2020 at her home.

Mary was the beloved wife of 58 years of the late George R. Churchman; dear mother of Karen (Sam) Shon of Cumming, Georgia, Kathy (Robert) Thomson of Bartlett and Patricia (Martin) Faivre of Elburn; proud grandmother of 7: Michael of Lombard, Stephanie of Georgia, Samuel of Georgia, Jeremy of Elburn, Hanna of Bartlett, Jacob of Elburn and Logan of Bartlett; great-grandmother of Selah of Georgia; loving sister of Margaret (Tom) Michael of Florida; life long friend of Ronald Murtaugh of Northlake; and many friends and relatives.

Mary was born in Chicago of parents who were from Glasgow, Scotland.  She had been a Lombard resident for over 60 years.

Mary was a member of the Lombard Moose #2350.  She retired in 2019 from Coker Services after over 30 years as their bookkeeper in Villa Park.

A Visitation will be held Sunday, June 28, from 2-7 PM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Funeral Service will be held Monday, June 29 at 11 AM at Brust Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at Mount Emblem Cemetery, Elmhurst.

Rose Mary Brown, age 85, of Cumming, Georgia, formerly of Villa Park and Elmhurst, died June 19, 2020.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 26th from 6- 9 PM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St, Lombard. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 27th at 10 AM at Brust Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.

Rose Mary is the loving mother of David (Barbara), Robert, Denise (Joseph) Abruscato, and Thomas; cherished grandmother of Jenny Brown Boyd, Lisa (Cory) Tippins, Stacy (Lee) Dickey, Nicole Abruscato, Veronica Abruscato, Shelley Brown, Olivia Brown, Dominic Brown; fond great-grandmother of Miles and Asher Boyd, Cade Tippins, Scarlett Dickey, and Niah Abruscato.

Rose Mary moved to Villa Park from Chicago in 1969. She then moved to Elmhurst in 2000 and to Cumming, GA in 2011. Rose Mary volunteered at Gottlieb Hospital from 1999-2011.

Frank J. Visla, age 97, Veteran of WWII U.S. Navy, of Lombard

Frank J. Visla, age 97, Veteran of WWII U.S. Navy, of Lombard, died June 17, 2020 at his home.

Frank was the loving husband of the late Shirlie nee Rogas; loving father of Joy A. Corral of Lombard; grandfather of Kevin (Tara) of Lombard, Andy (Ellen) of Downers Grove and Neal of Chicago; great-grandfather of Avery, Carsyn, and Abraham; dear brother of the late Mike, Ed, and Frances Bugaski; uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Frank was a Veteran, having served in WWII with the Navy and the Marine Corp; he was deployed to Saipan and Okinawa.  Frank trained at Camp Lejeune.

Frank retired from the Elmhurst Press where he had worked as a typesetter; he also worked for the Sun Times newspaper and Commerce Clearing House.  Frank had lived in Lombard since 1956.  He attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Villa Park.

Deborah A. Soboleski, age 57, of Glendale Heights, formerly of Lombard, died June 18 at Seasons Hospice.

Loving wife of John; dear mother of Joseph (Natalie) of St. Charles, Michael (Fiancée Stephanie Starzec) of Carol Stream; dear sister of Kenneth (Carolyn) of Bolingbrook; and many nieces and nephews.

Deborah grew up in Lombard  and had lived in Glendale heights since 1990.  She attended Lombard Jr. High School and graduated from Glenbard East High School.  She worked for Masterpiece Framing in Bloomingdale.

A Memorial Visitation will be held Saturday, June 27, from 2-7 PM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.  Interment private.

LEE A. HIRSCH, age 73, of Lombard, died June 16, 2020.

Services will be private.

Lee was the beloved husband of 45 years of the late Marietta, nee Tornabene; loving father of Juliemarie (Dan) Stephens of Lombard, Michael (Katherine) Hirsch of Lombard; cherished grandfather of Maxwell, Alexander, Alyssa, and Walter; dear brother of Sandra of Crystal Lake and Charles (Therese) of Chicago. Many nieces, nephews, relatives and cousins.

Lee was a resident of Lombard since 1979. He was formerly of Chicago. Lee graduated from Mather High School in Chicago and U. I. C. in Chicago.

Lee retired from the Canadian National Railroad in 2007 as a Car Accountant. After retirement, he worked as an usher for the Cubs for 7 seasons.

Lee was a former Lombard Jaycee’s Vice President. He cast the deciding vote to allow women to join Lombard Jaycees. Lee was a member of the Car Accountant  Receivables Association C.A.R.A.

Frank C. Cavey, Age 78, of Villa Park, formerly of Lombard

Frank C. Cavey passed away May 1, 2020, at the age of 78. He was born May 7, 1941.  He was a retired Lombard Police Sergeant, having 20 years on the force. He also served in the United States Army.

He leaves behind his children, Lynn (Steve) Mendak of Chicago, John (Beth) of Indiana and Diane Cavey of Villa Park; his grandchildren Nicholas, Allison, Amanda and Christopher; his sister, Mary Sons of Florida, his brothers, Arthur Cavey of Florida and Thomas (Iris) Cavey of Florida; his nieces and nephews; and his former wife and friend, Nancy Cavey.  He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas Cavey and Marjorie Cavey.

A private family service will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery on June 26, 2020.

Barbara R. Novak nee Struck, age 78, of Glen Ellyn

Barbara R. Novak nee Struck, age 78, of Glen Ellyn, died May 20 at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.

Barbara was the loving wife of the late Robert A.; sister of Robert J. Struck and the late Bonnie McAullife; aunt of Phillip Geers and sister-in-law of Shirley Swanson and Sarah Novak; and many other nieces & nephews and other relatives.  She was preceded in death by 2 brother-in-laws, the late Donald Swanson and the late Leo Novak.

Barbara was born in Chicago and was a resident of Glen Ellyn for 30 years.  She was active at Sacred Heart Church in Lombard, where she did charity work and helped the disabled and the elderly.

Barbara had worked for Eastern Airlines and the State of Illinois at the Secretary of State office in Lombard.

John was the husband of the late Kathryn; son of the late Lorretta (Lor) nee Papineau and the late Jim C. of Lombard; dear brother of Barb, the late Jim and the late Bob. Many other relatives and friends.

John grew up in Lombard.  He graduated from Glenbard East High School in 1971.  He formerly lived in West Chicago.
