Patrick J. Kennedy, age 63, of Addison

Patrick J. Kennedy, age 63, of Addison, passed away July 29, 2020, at Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital.

Patrick was the loving son of Virginia Kennedy nee Yodwolkis and the late Edward; loving brother of Barbara Kennedy of Chicago; and friend of many.

Graveside Service Tuesday at 1 PM at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.  Visitation Sunday 2-6 PM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.

Patrick was a Veteran of the US Navy where he served as a Seabee in Bosnia. He was a member of the VFW.

Patrick grew up in Chicago and was a graduate of St. Rita High School. He had lived in Addison for the past 23 years.  He earned his associate degree at Daley College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago.  Patrick was a carpenter and locksmith for the State of Illinois for 25 years.

Patrick was an avid cook and gardener – he grew vegetables and berries in his gardens.  He loved to travel.  Patrick loved his pet parrot, Freddy.

James A. Mahoney, age 71, of Chicago

James A. Mahoney, age 71, of Chicago, passed away on July 22 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Jim was the cherished husband of Elizabeth Chaban; a devoted brother; and caring “Uncle Bunny” to his many admiring nieces and nephews, their children; and many other relatives and friends.

Growing up in Brookfield, Jim attended Fenwick High School & Lyon’s Township High School. He studied Filmmaking at Columbia College in Chicago.

Jim was the founder and owner of Film and Tape Works at 237 E. Ontario, the premier production and post-production film/video house in Chicago, for over 30 years.  Early in his career Jim was a cameraman and had the pleasure of working on Chicago greats such as “The Blues Brothers” and “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”.  Throughout his career, he worked on many noteable and interesting projects.  He enjoyed hosting “Emeril Live” in Chicago by transforming his studio into a full kitchen set, complete with a live studio audience.  He particularly enjoyed filming many of Chicago’s finest sports teams. He edited the Chicago Bears Superbowl Shuffle video in 1985 when the Bears won the Superbowl.

Jim loved cooking, gardening, and could tie just about any kind of knot.  His greatest joy was helping others – and he never waited to be asked to do it.  Jim was exceptionally kind.

A Memorial Gathering will be held Friday, July 31, from 9:00 AM until the time of Prayers at 10:00 AM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main Street, Lombard followed by a Memorial Mass at 10:15 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 114 S. Elizabeth St., Lombard.

All visitors are asked to practice social distancing and wear a face mask.

We will appreciate sharing memories but let’s not share hugs at this time.  Thank you for your cooperation to keep yourselves and others safe.

Anita A. Pohla nee Haaga, age 60, of Lombard, died suddenly July 19th at her home.

Anita was the loving wife of Ray; beloved mother of Melody Pohla of Chicago and Paige Pohla of Lombard; dear daughter of Erna Haaga nee Scholtis of Frankfort and the late Joseph Haaga; dearest sister of Mark, Colleen and Robert., Sonja Scholtis, Judith (David) Stine; daughter-in-law of Aida Arita of Chicago; and many nieces and nephews.

Anita had been a resident of Lombard for 10 years.  She grew up in San Antonio, Texas.  She graduated from Hillcrest High School in Country Club Hills. She loved food and was passionate about food service.

Gene L. Vitale, age 92, of Lombard

Gene L. Vitale, of Lombard, passed away Sunday June 28th at the age of 92.

He was born in Chicago Illinois in 1927 to Donato and Elena (nee Di Pirro) Vitale. Gene is survived by his children: Mark (Ruthe) Vitale, Thomas (Linda) Vitale, Catherine (Gary) Ciccola, Christine (Scott) Strack; sister Marianne (John) Leja: grandchildren: Kailey, Steven, Kyle, Angela, Mike, Jake, Luke, Sarah, and Rachel; plus numerous nieces, nephews; dear friends: Janet, Dave, Elaine, Mary, Michael, Greg and Cathy. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Joan nee Blum; brother Louis; and sisters Louise and Jeannette.

Gene served in the United States Army, stationed in Korea. Upon returning he attended the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. He worked professionally as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator for over 45 years, managing his own studio on N. Michigan Avenue in Chicago. Gene was an acclaimed artist with well over 100 juried awards for his work, along with dozens of paintings in permanent collections, including Amoco-Standard Oil and The Artists’ Guild of Chicago. He was a long- time member of the Oak Park and DuPage Art Leagues, and The Elmhurst Artists’ Guild.

There is nothing Gene loved more than being around family and friends, especially if it included fishing, playing the guitar, or cracking corny jokes. His youthful spirit will always be remembered and cherished. Gene had a wonderful gift for bringing humor and laughter to any occasion. He will be forever in our hearts.

John F. Moran, PHD, age 73, of Lombard

John F. Moran, PHD, age 73, of Lombard, passed away April 30, 2020.

A Memorial Gathering will be held Friday, July 24, from 3-8 PM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.  A Private Memorial Mass will be held July 25 at Christ the Servant Catholic Church, Woodridge.

John was the beloved husband of Barbara J. “Bobbie” nee Maisonneuve; the loving father of Amy (Michael) Weltin and Kate (Steve) Reschke; adoring grandfather of Lexi, Maddie, Aidan, and Jonny Weltin and Camryn and Jillian Reschke; dear brother of Kathy (Bob) Dutkiewicz and Bill (the late Shelly) Moran; uncle and great-uncle of many.  John was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Toy.

John graduated from St. Jude Seminary in 1964. He received his PHD in Education. John was a Special Education Teacher at Bartlett High School, until his retirement in 2012. He was a former Bourbonnais Police Officer. John was a former Director of Staff Development at Elmhurst Hospital. He was the founder and owner of Shamrock Aviation and of Communicorp Television Productions.

Clare L. Deardorff, nee Greenwood, age 83, of Lombard

CLARE L. DEARDORFF, nee Greenwood, age 83, of Lombard died March 17 at home.

Mrs. Deardorff is survived by her son, Stephen of Elk Grove Village, and her daughter, Therese M. (John “Jay”) Sayles of Downers Grove; and her granddog, “Wolfy”.

Mrs.  Deardorff is preceded in death by her brother, John (Barbara) and her sister, Sister Mary Janice Greenwood.

A Memorial Mass will be held October 10, 2020, at 10:30 AM at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1501 S. Main St., Lombard. 

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Sacred Heart Convent of the Dominican Sisters of Springfield Illinois, 1237 W Monroe St, Springfield, IL 62704, would be appreciated.

Mrs. Deardorff was a resident of Lombard since 1963.  She was a graduate of the College of St. Francis.

Mrs. Deardorff had retired after 25 years as an Administrative Assistant for Tel Assist.

An avid Bingo player, Mrs. Deardorff had also played piano for the Lilac Town Seniors as well as the Rising Stars Theater Company.  She had also taught piano.

Mrs. Deardorff was an active member of Christ the King Church and was formerly active at St. Pius X Church.

Jack E. Rudyk, age 71, of Lombard since 1983

Jack E. Rudyk, age 71, of Lombard since 1983, passed away July 15, 2020.

Family Services will be private.

Jack was the beloved husband of Cris nee Shephard; loving father of Brady Hansen of St. Charles, Mikie (Brian) Kudelas of Carol Stream; fond grandfather of Addie, Peyton, and Paisley; dear brother of Nancy (Dominic) DiPaolo of Bartlett; son-in-law of JoAnne (Myron) Thornburg of Indiana. Many nieces, nephews and many friends.

Jack grew up in Chicago and graduated from Lane Tech. He was a member of Sheet Metals Local #73. In these last years, Jack worked for the union teaching this trade. He helped at Glenbard East when his daughters played softball. Jack made the bench for the dugout there. He loved to travel to beaches.

Vito A. Longo, age 76, of Las Vegas, NV, formerly of Lombard

Vito A. Longo, age 76, of Las Vegas, NV, formerly of Lombard, passed away Friday, July 3, 2020, with his loving kids by his side.

Vito was born in Chicago, IL, on July 27, 1943, the son of the late Carmen Longo and the late Antionette nee Marine. He graduated from St. Phillips High School in Chicago. Vito honorably served in the US Marine Corp, Air National Guard and retired from the US Army as Master Sergeant.

He was a longtime resident of Lombard.

Vito is survived his five loving children, Melissa (Jeffrey) Newman of West Chicago, Michael (Donna) Longo of Glen Ellyn, Linda (Randy) Kerns of Florida, Amy Perry of West Chicago, and Matthew (Susie) Longo of Glen Ellyn; his dear grandchildren, Tommy (Crystal), Zach, Sarah, Jessica, Andrea, Richard, Katie, Anthony, Courtney, Jenna, Aly, Gracie, and Joey; and two great-grandchildren, Rylee and Bryce.

Vito’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of St. Rose Hospital, Las Vegas, NV, for the wonderful care and compassion they provided to Vito.

A Memorial Visitation will be held Thursday, July 23rd, from 4 – 9 PM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St, Lombard.
