In 1960, Marlene and Richard moved to San Luis Obispo, CA where Richard attended California State Polytechnic College, graduating in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.  Marlene was granted the honorary degree of PHT “Pushing Hubby Through”.

They returned to Chicago and raised a family. She became a member of Harvard Avenue Evangelical Free Church, where she put her talents to work in the Christian Education Committee and ran the children’s program, “Little Friends”, during Ladies Bible Study each Tuesday morning.

She and Richard enjoyed camping when they were younger and eventually moved on to daily bus trips.  They could often be found at McDonald’s for afternoon coffee.
