Charpie

Susan “Sue” M. Charpie (nee Eastman), of Naperville (formerly Wheaton), departed this life at the age of 72.  Sue was born August 28th, 1946, in Chicago, to Norman and Loretto Eastman.  She was a loving mother to Deborah Eastman of Naperville and Kathleen (Brad) Decker of Champaign.  She adored her grandsons, Sam and Ozzie, who will miss her dearly.  Sue was a loving aunt to her nieces and a cherished friend to countless many.  She is preceded in death by her older brother, Norman.

As a stay-at-home mom for many years, Sue was known for her involvement in her daughters’ classrooms, and was seen as a “second mom” to many of their friends.  She was active in her parish, St. James, and served many years in the Council of Catholic Women, even taking on the role of president.

Sue went back to work part-time as a proofreader for the Wheaton Leader.  Her ability to correct grammatical errors remains unparalleled.  Sue was enjoying her recent retirement after working for nearly twenty years as an administrative assistant for Patrick Engineering, in Lisle.

Sue enjoyed traveling, going to Cubs games, floating in her pool, watching movies, attending the theater, visiting her grandchildren, shopping with her daughters, celebrating holidays, hosting friends and family, dancing to good old fashioned rock-n-roll, and could typically be found sipping on wine or gin and tonics.  She is known for her perfect pancakes and signature lasagna recipes.  She could navigate any new city with ease and had a knack for reading maps.

A gifted wordsmith, Sue was a force with which to be reckoned when it came to Scrabble matches.  She enjoyed crossword puzzles, learning new vocabulary words, making lists, and cutting out (and mailing) newspaper articles to those she loved.  She sent cards to her friends and loved ones for every occasion, due to her diligence of keeping a calendar with everyone’s birthdays and anniversaries.

A visitation will be held Sunday, June 2nd, from 2 PM to 7 PM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 South Main Street, Lombard.   Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 3rd, with 9:30 AM Prayers from Brust Funeral Home, to Sacred Heart Church, 114 S. Elizabeth Street, Lombard, for a 10 AM Funeral Mass.  Interment Assumption Cemetery.

Donations in her name may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, at cff.org.
