SernaLydia Y. Serna, age 79 of Lombard died June 19 at her home.  Mrs. Serna was born on September 11, 1939, in Richmond Texas, to Leopoldo and Victoria (Carrera) Ybanez.  She was married March 29, 1963, in Chicago, Illinois to her beloved husband Manuel Jesus Serna, who preceded her in death on July 29, 2018.

She is survived by her 2 sons and 2 daughters, Christopher (Deborah), Deborah (Erik) Ekstrom, Margarita (William) Buckley and Mario:  cherished grandmother of Victoria, Katie, Christopher, Caitlin, Nikolei and Michael: great-grandmother of Leo, Chase, Bailey, Noah, Dante and Benjamin; dearest sister to 12 siblings; aunt and great-aunt to many.

Lydia devoted her life to loving and caring for her family.  She had a deep enjoyment for life and many creative things.  Lydia was a kind, friendly, funny and generous soul who made friends with anyone she met. She loved to laugh and tell stories.  She spent her time devoted to her passion for gardening, studying horticulture, interior decor and her deep love for music.  She was a Catholic women of great faith.  She shared her love for God and her devotion to her faith with all in her family.   She was an example of tremendous courage, strength and love throughout her lifetime.

A Visitation will be held Monday, June 24, from 4-8 PM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.  Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, June 25, with 9:30 AM Prayers from Brust Funeral Home to Sacred Heart Church, 114 S. Elizabeth St., Lombard, for 10 AM Mass.  Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.
