Written by Brust Funeral Home on July 27th, 2019

Melone, EmilyOn July 26, 2019 Emily Melone (nee DiVito) peacefully passed away at the age of 87 surrounded by her loving family. Emily was the devoted wife of Guido for 65 years. Beloved mother of Susan (Michael) Campbell, Jeanette (Michael) Foy, and Joanna Turner. Loving Nana to Melissa (Paul), Michael (Susie), Emily (Jacob), Marty, Sarah, and Ryan. Nana enjoyed spending time with her great grandchildren: Susanna, Caleb, Natalie, Owen, and Evan. Emily was preceded in death by her mother and father Ettore and Celeste DiVito. Cherished sister to the late Father John DiVito, the late Anthony (Floria) DiVito, the late Celia (late Peter) Cairo, and late Ettore (Lydia) DiVito. Emily was loved and will be missed by her many nieces, nephews, and friends. Emily will be best remembered for her devotion to God and love of her family. Emily worked for many years as an insurance underwriter. Affectionately known as the “Walking Nana”, she commuted downtown while also raising her three daughters. She was an avid reader, enjoyed watching classic movies on TCM, played card and dice games, and spent time volunteering both in the community and in her parish community. Emily was at home in the kitchen and loved nothing more than preparing spaghetti and meatballs for Sunday dinners. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Catholic Charities.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 30, from 9:30 until prayers 11:00 am at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.  An 11:30 AM Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 114 S. Elizabeth St. Lombard.  Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.

The news I heard of Emily’s passing makes me very sad. I know Guido and his fine daughter’s, plus the rest of the family with the help from God will pull them through such a difficult time. All the memories myself and my family have of Emily I can’t express on paper. We all loved her and her family. Always had a smile on my face when we visited.
