MilasAmerican_Flag_x300Edward Lawrence Milas, age 98, of Lombard, passed away December 11, 2019.

A visitation will be held Monday, December 16th from 8:45 AM until the time of prayers at 9:45 AM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St, Lombard,  proceeding to St. John the Apostle Church, 330 N. Westmore Ave, Villa Park,  for 10:15 AM Mass. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton.

Edward is survived by his beloved wife, Martha; his loving son, John (Presy) Milas; cherished grandchildren, Paula (Thaddeus) Sochacki and Edward (Amy) Milas; dear great-grandchildren, Ashley and Leila Sochacki; and fond nephews, Ronald (Juliana) Tragasz and Richard (Cynthia) Tragasz; many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Edward is preceded in death by his sister, Adeline (Thaddeus) Tragasz

Edward was born on October 8, 1921 to Polish immigrants, Jan Milas and Josephine nee Dubernas. He was raised on the west side of Chicago.

Edward served in the U.S. Navy from 1939 to 1945. He was a Submariner throughout WWII. Edward was awarded the Presidential Award for service in the Philippines, along with other distinguished honors.

He married Martha Ella Hartje in 1945 and moved to Chicago. Edward was employed as an Electrician for Western Electric in Cicero, until his retirement. His child, John, was born in 1948 and Edward actively participated in raising him and shared an appreciation for sports, education, career development and outdoor activities. He relocated to Lombard in 1978, and resided in the same house throughout the rest of his life. Edward enjoyed being part of raising his two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He attended most of their sporting events and school functions and was respectfully referred to as “grandpa” by the team members. Edward was a devout Catholic and served as an usher at St. John the Apostle Church. He had just celebrated his 98th birthday and 74th wedding anniversary this year. Edward had a rich and rewarding life as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
