American FlagJohn “Jack” Craine, age 82, of Glen Ellyn, formerly of Michigan City, IN and Lombard; loving husband of 59 years to Betty Mae nee Schulz, loving father of Jeff Craine of Bloomingdale, Steven (Donna) of Hurst, TX, Jill Ryan of Sycamore, Katy (Mike) Compton of North Aurora; fond grandfather of Kristen (James) DeBellis of Bloomingdale, Erin (Joe) Spalla of Schaumburg, Kelly (Thomas) Crook of Ocala, FL, Jessica Craine of TX, Steven Ryan of Sycamore, Danielle Craine, of TX, Lindsey Craine of TX; great-grandfather of Sydney, Jonah, Caley  & Kolbie, dear brother of  William (Nina) of Punta Gorda, FL and the late Donald Robert Craine  and  fond uncle of 7.

Memorial Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 2 from 2PM until time of service 7PM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St. ,Lombard.

Interment Private.

Memorials to American Heart Association.

Mr. Craine resided in Lombard from 1956 to 1985 on Meadow Ave. and Martha Ct., then Michigan City, IN for 28 years and Glen Ellyn the last seven months. Mr. Craine grew up in Glen Ellyn and graduated from Glenbard High School in 1948. He attended Elmhurst College. He was a Veteran of the U. S. Army. He is a retired salesman and worked for several Advertising Companies. He is an expert in Point of Display Advertising.  He held several patents in Display Merchandising. He was an avid Sailor and owned eight boats in the course of his life.  He also raced sailboats on Lake Geneva. He was a former member of the Lombard Golf League.   He was very creative and was able to make, build and fix things with simple materials. He was very proud that his family was from the Isle of Manx.

    Jack was my neighbor in Lombard (& also a fellow Glenbardian)…..and I will always remember his “rain forest” and his wonderful vegetable garden. One year he planted “collards” and gave some to me suggesting that they would need to be cooked all day….yes he was right. What a pleasant man!
    Wish I could look out on his garden instead of the in-ground pool that is never used!
