American FlagPATTERSONGerald Thomas (“Jed”) Patterson, 83, of Villa Park, IL, passed away in his sleep on December 17, 2013.  A funeral mass will be on December28, 2013 at 10am at St. James the Apostle at 480 S. Park Blvd, Glen Ellyn, 60137.  Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

 Jed was born on December 20, 1929, in Chicago, IL, and graduated from York High School in 1948.  He served in the Army and was a proud combat veteran of the Korean War, serving in the 1st Cavalry Division.  After his discharge from the Army, he returned to Elmhurst and played semi-pro football for the Elmhurst Travelers.  He married in 1952, and worked in the construction industry as a tradesman before settling in the printing industry as a machinist/foreman.  After retirement, he greatly enjoyed his time as a bus driver for children with special needs, visiting his family, and spending time with his grandchildren.  Throughout his life, he was an avid hunter, fisher, golfer, gardener, and all-around home repair expert.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Patterson , his mother, Elinor (Cush) Patterson, brothers Jack and Thomas Patterson, sisters Mary and Nancy (Arenz) Patterson, his former spouse, Mary Lynn (Larson) Patterson, son Thomas Patterson, and grandson Owen Patterson.

He is survived by his son Steve Patterson of Elk Grove Village, son Jeff (Gail) Patterson of Pleasant Prairie, WI, daughter Linda (Tom) Preston of Glen Ellyn, son RJ (Erica) Patterson of Aurora, son David (Janie) Patterson of Hutchinson, KS, thirteen grandchildren; Jessica (Nunziata) Patterson, Angie (Sriver) Patterson, Steve Patterson, Thomas (“TJ”) Preston, Leah (Barkley) Preston, Darah Preston, JonathanPatterson, Zachary Patterson, Mitchell Preston, Joshua Patterson, Aimee Patterson, Melanie Patterson, and Benjamin Patterson, four great-grandchildren;  Gianna Nunziata, Andrew Sriver, Ryan Nunziata, and Boden Barkley, his brother Robert Patterson of Midland, TX, and sister Jane (DeBiase)  Patterson of Las Vegas, NV.
