Myrtle Abelt, (nee Heinichen), age 94, formerly of Lombard, Illinois, entered into the presence of the Lord on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Willowcrest Nursing Pavillion, Sandwich, IL. Preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Norman C. Abelt, baby sister of Harry Heinichen, Wilbur Heinichen, Ruth DeGarmo and Caroline Weinert, mother of Amy Johnsen (nee Abelt), grandmother of Scott (Peggy), Kevin, Todd and Kayla Johnsen, great grandmother of Dylan, Christian, Noah, Grace, Kijah and Kevonte` Johnsen. Myrtle was born on January 31, 1920 in Chicago, Illinois to August and Clara Heinichen. She attended Harrison High School and later worked at Panek’s Bakery, followed by S & R Drugs, Lombard, and Glen Rexall Drugs in Glen Ellyn for many years until her retirement. Not one to slow down, she sold Mary Kay cosmetics into her 70’s. Myrtle was best known for her huge capacity for love, her passion for life and her never ending desire to try new things. She and her husband, Norm, loved to host parties for friends and family. They also loved to travel, and enjoyed many trips including two to Hawaii, Europe, Puerto Vallarta and parts of the U.S. She was the jewel of her family, a true blessing in their lives, and will live on in the hearts of all who loved her. Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 18 from 9am until the time of Funeral Service at 11 a.m. at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St. Lombard. Interment at Bethania Cemetery, Justice, Illinois.
