Written by Brust Funeral Home on April 18th, 2014

SutherlandCarol Anne Sutherland, nee Kunkle, age 69, of Lombard, died peacefully Thursday April 17 at Good Samaritan Hospital surrounded by her family.

Visitation will be on Tuesday April 22 from 3pm to 8pm at Brust Funeral Home, 135 South Main Street, Lombard. Funeral service will be Wednesday April 23 at 10:30am at Community Presbyterian Church 1111 E Madison Lombard IL. Interment will be at Forest Hill in Glen Ellyn IL.

Carol is lovingly remembered by her husband of 42 years, Jon; her two children, Eric (Hope) and Beth; her two granddaughters Morgan and Grace; her brother Chuck (Janet) and her sister Celia (John Dizonno); and all of her extended family.

Carol is preceded in death by her brother Clifford Kunkle.

Carol loved to garden and was always surrounded by plants. She worked hard to pass this passion on to her children without much success. Luckily her oldest granddaughter, Morgan, loved to garden with grandma. Reading was a favorite pastime of hers, especially with her granddaughters. Carol was very active in her church, Community Presbyterian Church in Lombard. Carol was a former elementary teacher in Chicago IL. She recently volunteered at Shafer School in Villa Park and loved working with children and watching them grow.

Carol will be remembered by all who knew her as a kind, patient, and loving woman. She was the first to help out whenever it was needed. She loved music and was part of the church bell choir for a number of years. Carol had faith in Jesus Christ and was a good example for living a loving Christian life.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials to Community Presbyterian Church, 1111 E Madison, Lombard IL 60148 would be appreciated.

Carol and I began teaching 5th Gr. across the hall from each other at Spry School in Chicago during the mid ’60’s. She was a dedicated and patient teacher who loved teaching Math and cared deeply about her students. I am happy that I played a part in introducing Carol and Jon. They were wonderfully matched.
Jon, Eric and Beth, my thoughts and prayers are with you.
