John David Walz, age 76, of Lombard, died May 4 at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.  John is survived by his beloved wife Donna and his children David (Cathy) of Forest Park, IL, Tim (Mindy) of Kendallville, IN, and Kristin (Alexander) Whitfield of Brookfield, WI; and his grandchildren Elizabeth, Michael, Nathan, Joshua, Caleb, Tristan, Sebastian, and Alexa.

John is preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Isabel; his sister Mary Jo; and his brother Robert. John was born and raised in Minneapolis, MN, moved with his wife to Illinois in 1964, and has lived in Lombard for 38 years.

     John’s career as a management accountant was spent serving faith-based and community not-for-profit organizations, including, most recently, Lutheran Education Association and Bright Stars of Bethlehem. John served on numerous boards and committees at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Wheatridge Ministries, Lutheran Home of Arlington Heights, and elsewhere. He was also Chairman of the Congregation at St. John’s. John also served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve, and was a graduate of the University of Minnesota.

     Visitation will be on Friday, May 9, from 2:30-8:30 PM at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 215 S. Lincoln Ave., Lombard. Additional visitation beginning at 9:30 on Saturday, May 10, prior to the funeral service at St. John’s at 11:00 AM.

     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lombard (www.stjohnslombard.org), Wheat Ridge Ministries, Itasca, IL (www.wheatridge.org), or Bright Stars of Bethlehem, Mt. Morris, IL (www.brightstarsbethlehem.org).

    John is missed. I’m sorry I couldn’t get there for the funeral. I have great memories of our families spending Holidays and summers with each other. God bless his family.
