Ruth Livingston Morrison, age 93, of Lombard

Morrison, RuthRuth Livingston Morrison passed away peacefully at age 93 on July 11, 2014, in the Health Center at the Beacon Hill Retirement Center in Lombard, Illinois.

Ruth was born July 29, 1920 in Elmwood, Illinois.  She was the fourth child of Harry and Ida Livingston, who were farmers near Elmwood.

In 1945, Ruth married Earl Morrison, of Elmwood, Illinois.  Ruth and Earl had one daughter, Jane Ida Morrison. Earl died on March 6, 1991, and Jane passed away on November 9, 2013.

Ruth attended secretarial school in Peoria, Illinois, and worked for Benedict Tool and Die Company for several years.

After Earl was discharged from the Army he was employed with Standard Oil Company.  Earl worked in the Peoria office, and for a short time in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin office.  Soon thereafter Earl was transferred to the Home Office of Standard Oil, in Chicago, Illinois, and Ruth and Earl then moved to Lombard, where they settled for the rest of their lives.

Ruth loved Lombard and became a very active member in The First Church of Lombard, where she helped organize the annual rummage sale at the First Church, plus being involved in Circles and helping with many dinners and receptions.  She was also a member of the Elmhurst Hospital Guild.  She volunteered weekly at the hospital and was active in working in the Library at the hospital.  Ruth was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter LN.

In the early 1960s Ruth became the secretary for the Principal at the Glenbard East High School, in Lombard, a position she held for many years.

After retiring as a secretary Ruth remained active in the community, including volunteering on a weekly basis at Good Samaritan Hospital, in Downers Grove, for many years.

Ruth is survived by her brother Raymond Livingston, and his wife Barbara, of Walnut Creek, California, her sister-in-law Vera Livingston, of Peoria, Illinois, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Ruth was loved by her family and many friends, and she will be greatly missed by everyone who was lucky enough to know her.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2014, at 3:00 p.m., at the First Church of Lombard, 220 S. Main Street, in Lombard.

A committal service will be held on Sunday, August 10, 2014, at 1:00 p.m., at the Elmwood Cemetery, in Elmwood, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, please direct any memorial gifts to the First Church of Lombard, 220 Main St,  or the Shriners’ Children Hospital, 2211 N. Oak Park Ave, Chicago, Illinois.
