GraefenJames Graefen, age 64, a 40 year resident of Lombard, passed away January 19, 2016 at his home peacefully with his wife and children at side. Funeral service will be held Saturday January 23rd with prayer service at 10am. Interment will follow immediately at Elmwood Cemetery in River Grove, IL.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, JoAnn; cherished father of 3: Jennifer (Kanton) Williams, Jeff, Jean (Danny) DiNatale; dearest mother Ruth Graefen, and caring brother Thomas Graefen; his grandchildren Logan, Kennedy, Breia, Julianna, Leo and Lorenzo. He is preceded in death by his father Robert Graefen. Jim was loved and treasured by many family members and friends.

Jim’s fondest memories will be those moments spent with his wife, children and grandchildren. His greatest pride was teaching his grandchildren life lessons and being active in their lives and activities.

Remembered for his 6 year service in the Air Force Reserves. Jim was a dedicated employee of Illinois Bell/AT&T for 38 years. Die hard Cubs fan, sports extraordinaire, loved to entertain friends and family (host of Fin Fest), best fisherman in Lombard and author of JFN (Jim’s Fantasy News). Jim will also be remembered for his unique dance moves and being the life of the party. Jim was a giver and always put others first; always lending a helping hand to anyone in need. He easily became friends with almost everyone he met. He will be greatly missed by all; as he’s touched so many lives.

Jim you were fantastic father in law, husband, dad, grandfather, Son, brother and friend! You are so much to so many people but most of all you are loved and missed terribly! No words could ever describe how much you mean to me and our family! I will miss how you play with my kids, the example you gave us all young men, the words you said it how you said them, and especially your dance moves at the family weddings! You fought a hard fight it I’ll never forget how strong you are and your spirit will never die but will live on in each and every one of us that were touched by you. We will keep a little piece of you alive inside of all us until we meet again in heaven. We all love and miss you Jim rest in peace. Or should I say party in peace as heaven got one really cool angel who I have a feeling won’t be doing much resting! Till we meet again Jim ,it will never be goodbye….. PS I think this is the Cubs year you’ll have a heck of a seat at the World Series. I Love you Dad!

  4. JoAnn, so sorry to hear about Jim, our prayers are with you, I remember all the birthday parties we attended with the family, and the one story Jim told about him stopping for a beer at a local bar well if I remember right, he said there was a jar on the bar with some treats in it, so he tried on, well they turned out to be doggie treats! he had some good stories..
    Take care…

    To the Graefen family –

My deepest condolences in the passing of James. I had the pleasure of meeting him and becoming his Audiologist. I always enjoyed seeing him in my office as he always had a positive attitude and smile on his face. He will be missed.
