Edwin F. Sittig, Jr., age 79, of Lombard

Written by Brust Funeral Home on November 24th, 2016

“Watch the ice,” he said one warm summer evening as we left him. Onlookers chuckled to themselves, chalking it up to dementia or medication, but family would understand the underlying tone of:
Be careful
I love you
I hold you dear
Three simple words, “watch the ice” would resonate the whole way home with their hidden meaning:
Get home safely
Don’t take anything for granted Protect those you love
A million lessons are taught and learned in a lifetime,
Be responsible
Respect others
Don’t let your guard down
We remember all those lessons, taught in the best way you knew how. We carry them with us, along with your memory. We were listening, and are listening still, as you kissed us each goodbye and told us to “Watch the ice”.

In loving memory of Edwin F Sittig Jr,
Husband to Lois (Emery), father to Skip (Michele), Dan (Colleen), Susan (Todd) Hall, Tom (Kathy), Kirby (Nicole).  Brother to Daryl (Jan)

Grandfather of 19, Great-Grandfather of 9.

Ed was a trucker at heart, delivering  dairy, gravel and cross-country freight for more than a decade.  When he sold his truck, he went back to the pipefitter’s union, worked in the field and taught  welding for 18 years for Locals 514 & 501.

He left behind a legacy of goodwill, and fairness, and will be remembered fondly for his huge stature and his quick wit.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, November 30, from 4 to 8 PM with a funeral service at 7 PM.  More info 888-629-0094.
