I only met Ellen once but we emailed often about my son, her student – Ricky. Ellen put in the extra effort once Ricky was diagnosed with ADHD & truly helped him find his first passion at school in Technology/Code. Last December Ellen nominated Ricky an award & after the ceremony I introduced myself & asked if I could give her a hug. She said “I would love that!” with a big smile. We both started to cry as we embraced, it was a beautiful moment. She was special. I’m so thankful my son had her as a teacher. My most sincere heartfelt condolences to Ellen’s family, friends, & students.

My dad has helped me a lot, and so have my teachers, but I think I will always be sad since Ms. B died. I have learned that this is ok, but there is one story I think that will help me by sharing it with you. I had basically no skills using a computer in 6th grade, and it looked like I was going to get an F in the class, but Ms. B was not going to allow that. So everyday I went to her classroom in home room, and a lot of days I went after school. She also helped me by being my friend, she was there for me when I didn’t fit in anywhere at school. Finally in the end she helped me so much that I got an A in her class. So I know I have said this a lot since Thursday, but thank you Ms. B for the A, the love, and the occasional chocolate!

As one of Ellen’s Seattle cousins I will always treasure the time we all spent as kids getting together for family functions. As life ages us and we become involved in our own growing families communication with each other faded a little, however Ellen and her family will always have a special place in my heart. If we continue to send Ellen good thoughts she will hear us and smile.

    Your cousin
