William James Ryan of Lombard

Written by Brust Funeral Home on October 6th, 2017

ryan, williamBill took the ultimate road trip to heaven on 10-4-17, after long, multiple illnesses. Born in Chicago on 9-5-44, Bill was the 7th son of Matthew K. and Lillian V.(Dixon) Ryan, both deceased. Wit and humor were Bill’s gifts and he used them to overcome a very challenging childhood and go on to have a beautiful family and successful career, retiring as a Lombard Police Lieutenant.

Bill is survived by devoted wife of 42 years, Margaret (Callan), daughters Eileen (Matthew) Quinn, Maureen (Dan) Doty, and son Billy (Christine) Ryan, as well as grandchildren Nellie, Beatrice, and Sean Quinn, Eleanor Doty, and baby Ryan due in November. His brother Larry (Carol) and nieces Patti, Barb, nephew Michael also survive. Beloved by the entire Callan clan.

Bill was an Air Force veteran and was 41 years sober. Gift giving was his joy, generosity his legacy. He never missed a chance to slip somebody a “fin” or help someone down on their luck. We imagine him powerwashing the pearly gates, telling St. Peter a dirty joke, floating in an eternal pool, and hoping he’s having a Coke with his in-laws Tom and Marge.

We invite family and friends to gather to celebrate the end of Bill’s suffering on Wed., Oct. 11 at 9 am at St. Alexander Church, 300 S. Cornell, Villa Park, IL  60181, with a memorial Mass following at 10 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Mercy Home for Boys & Girls (donate.mercyhome.org) or Misericordia.com would be appreciated.

Arrangements made by Brust Funeral Home, Lombard. For more info www.brustfuneralhome.com or 888-629-0094.
