BarnardNorma DeKoker Batina Barnard, loving widow of Harold C. Barnard, born February 12, 1921, passed away peacefully at Alexian Brothers Hospice on August 25 2018.

Beloved mother of Barbara Moos, Norma Cooke and M. Thomas Batina; cherished grandmother of Martha Moos, Sarah Hillmert-Gallitz (Jeff Gudelsky), Beth (Rob) Anderson and Suzanne Moos, and great-grandmother to Calaen and Trevor Gallitz, and Natalie and Miriam Anderson.

Fond step-mother to Carol (Ron) Batey, Sherry/Cheryl (Ed) Veeck, Nancy (Robert) Kobe-Thompson, Skip/Harold A. (Barb) Barnard and grandmother to Ruth Ann Batey, Ed (Lisa) Batey and Suzie Batey, Roxanne Marie Goodwin, Ed (Missy) Veeck, Gwynne (Steve) Veeck-James, Matthew (Laurie) Kobe, Jacob (Amy) Kobe, Jonathan (Case) Kobe and Joel (Krista) Kobe; great grandmother to Alyssa and Addison Batey, Parker, Anna and Libby Veeck, Abigail and Braden James, Morgan, Kenadie and Bailey Kobe, Madison and Olivia Kobe, Andrew and Emma Kobe, Jack Kobe, Rocco Green.

Born and raised in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood, Norma moved to Morgan Park/Beverly before living in Merrillville, Indiana for 35 years. Throughout her life she spent summers at her beloved Lake Van Auken cottage in Michigan, and later enjoyed winters in Avon Park, FLorida for more than a decade before returning to live in and near Wood Dale, Illinois these past four years. She was a devout Christian and ever strove to share her faith as a Methodist and later as a member of the Church of the Nazarene with family and friends and all she met and knew.

Visitation from 2pm – 8 pm, Wednesday, August 29th at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St, Lombard, IL 60148; a Memorial Service will be held at the Lombard Church of the Nazarene at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 30th, and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lombard Church of Nazarene, 536 N. Columbine Ave (Rte 53), Lombard, IL 60148.
