Porfirio R. Ruiz, age 75, a longtime resident of Lombard

Written by Brust Funeral Home on September 20th, 2018

Porfirio R. Ruiz 75 of Piedras Negras, Mexico and 38 year resident of Lombard passed away to eternal glory on September 17,2018. Porfirio was preceded in death by his parents Trinidad and Felipe, brothers; Raymundo, Carlos and Raul.

Left to remember his smile, intelligence and helpful nature are his loving wife of 47 years Graciela, devoted children Arturo and Ofelia and loving grandchildren; Raquel, Isabel and Erik (Hines).

Porfirio was a multitalented man who arose from humble beginnings. He was a circus performer, cliff diver, boxer “El Gallito Kid Rodriguez “, accountant, mechanic, welder, carpenter, set up man, gardener and family man.

Not long after arriving in the U.S. he meet the love of his life and soul mate, Graciela while employed at Cinch.

They married and moved to Lombard to start a family.

Here then is where he found his purpose and devoted the rest of his life to.

He was quick to help a neighbor, either with his expertise or tools. Oftentimes snow-blowing the entire block’s sidewalk in the winter. He loved crossword puzzles, looking up words he didn’t know and expanded his vocabulary. He hated the cold but endured it. Anyone that came by to visit in the summer would always be amazed to see him in a sweater and knitted winter hat! He loved entertaining, his “cookouts” legendary. He loved his dog “Duque” and walking every day. An avid history buff, he loved world events and geography. He would discuss and argue; religion, politics, history, culture and just about anything else with anyone that dared. His memory like a vault. His work ethic beyond compare. He had only retired a year ago but kept active till his final days. More often than not, you would find him out back watering his garden.

He was a humble man and would say to those reading this “Have no fear, love your family. Be kind and honest. Do what’s right and in the end, it will all work out. We are all destined to return to our Father.”

We will miss this great man and look forward to our eternal reunion

Visitation will held Monday, September 24th from 10 AM until time of funeral service at 1 PM at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main Street. Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
