Peternard--JohnJohn William Peternard, age 69, passed away peacefully Monday, September 24th, 2018.  He was born in Chicago, September 28th, 1948 to Sarah and John Peternard.  John is survived by his caring wife, Grace with whom he has spent 42 years building the life and family they have enjoyed to this day.  He adored his three children, Kim, Kristen, and Kelly and the light that they brought to his life.  The pride in his family continued to grow with each birth of his six grandchildren.  Tyler, Kylie, Mackenzie, Autumn, Jason, and Ryan each brought immeasurable joy into his heart and renewed vitality in his life.  John is also survived by his loving sisters, Kay Masini and Michelle Stamm.

John’s interests evolved throughout his life.  Spending summers on Beaver Island, MI during his youth instilled his love of fishing that remained with him always.  His love of sports evolved from football and swimming in his high school days, to playing softball and golf, and finally, in his later years, cheering on his grandchildren at all their sporting events and screaming at the TV at any sport that was on.  His patriotism and interest in politics were evident in his run for state senate.  As he got older, he also loved traveling.  But, John’s biggest focus was always his family.

His perseverance in life was an inspiration for all who knew him.  Although he battled though many physical conditions and the hardships of multiple surgeries, his drive to live his life to the fullest carried him through all his trials.  The endless determination and optimism that John exhibited in his life was always a rock on which his family could rely.

John was a hardworking husband and father.  Even as he was plagued by chronic pain, he still made sure he focused on providing care and loving support to his family and especially his grandchildren.  His grandchildren were the pride of his life.  His love, joy, and devotion could always be felt and seen at each football game, gymnastic meet, soccer game, or promotion belt test.  Most of all, his endearing smile will live eternally in all of our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to Holy Cross Church, Beaver Island, Michigan and to medical research.

A gathering for family and friends in honor and remembrance will be held on Sunday, September 30th, 2018 at Brust Funeral Home, 135 South Main Street, Lombard from 2:00 to 6:00pm.
